Using Vienna's Tourist Sevices. by Ekaterinburg
The city maps delivered to hotels, guesthouses etc are the most practical guides to Vienna you will use. Guidebooks obviously supply more detailed info but the 'City Map and Museums' by Vienna Info was the definitely the most helpful source I had while I was in the city. There are two easy to follow maps, and information about almost every attraction. More importantly, this information is bang up to date in terms of opening hours, admission prices and transport hints. I carried this with me everywhere and left the heavy books for research in the evenings. This saves a lot of weight in terms of what you are lugging around all day.
The Tourist Information Office at Albertina was the one I used for all my queries, stocking up on leaflets brochures etc. The staff are very helpful and you can get details of absolutely everything that's currently happening.
Tourist Info has a special leaflet dealing with safety tips for visitors to Vienna. A practical aspect to this is the list of telephone numbers and contacts in the event of theft, lost documents etc. Loss or theft of any of your belongings can be tracked, once reported to the to the police, on the website www.fundamt.gv.at
