Schonbrunn

by yasmin0

Hi,
Entry in court palace is free? to reach Gloriette?(I have limited time).

Re: Schonbrunn

by nicolaitan

you can walk outside the palace for nothing and also walk through the park up to the gloriette for nothing. do be aware the gloriette is a lot farther from the palace than it often appears in photos and up a hill.

Re: Schonbrunn

by bazsi79

You can walk around in most parts of the park free of charge, where you can even walk up to the Gloriette (which is quite a long walk, on top of a hill).

However, you need to pay if you want to see the castle from the inside, if you want to go up to the roof terrace of the Gloriette, or to enter some special parts of the park (like the maze or the crown prince garden).

You can find entrance fees here:

walkingtime is at least 20 min from the castle to Gloriette, a small street-train will take you there as well, but not faster.
The view from there is fine, but not really worth the trouble for someone who is in a hurry !!!

Re: Schonbrunn

the little train does a big circle all around the property and cost 5 Eu, stopping at the zoo, the greenhouse, and a few other places but certainly not at the fountain after which the palace is named. and the " roman ruins " can only be glimpsed through the trees. the good news is that the next to last stop leaves one closer to the train than returning all the way to the palace.

I want to photograph:Gloriette Fountain, Fountain of Neptune, Roman ruins, Obelisk .
Thanks for your answers

Re: Schonbrunn

You can do all of that for free! :)

How much time do you have for that?

Re: Schonbrunn

by globetrott

Gloriette Fountain ???
I cannot think of any at the moment, but the
Fountain of Neptune is about half way when you step up to the Gloriette
The Roman ruins are on your way back, but a bit sidewards
Obelisk ?? I cant remember any at the moment.
What else is there to see:
a maze
a very large, baroque cage for doves & exotic birds, thats also on your way back to the palace
---
on the total you should calculate at least 2-3 hours for your program there
and then you should also add the museum of royal carriages and the last car of the emperor, next to the palace.

Travel Tips for Vienna

DOGGIE, KEEP OFF THE GRASS.

by alyf1961

On most of the areas of grass in the centre of Vienna, there are warnings on how much it would cost if your dog fouls on the grass. These fines are different on each section of grass. Most tourists do not take their pets with them on holiday. If you do shop around and get the best deal.

The State Operahouse was the first of the monumental buildings built on the Ring, the avenue which was created after the razing of the city wall in 1857. Here the world famous 'Opernball' takes place once a year.

Upper Belvedere Palace

by CandS

The Schloss Belvedere is within walking distance of the Ring and has great views of the city... It's a nice place to eat lunch or have a break from the walking too... :) And the gardens are really pretty.

9th district - Alsergrund

by pakistanibrain

The Votivkirche is a church close to the Ring street and very famous for it's archtiecure. It is enclosed by a little park, one of the favourite relaxing spots for the students of the close-by University of Vienna.

Alsergrund (that's how the 9th district is called) is one of the larger central districts. Many major traffic routes through Vienna go through this district and the "Allgemeines Krankenhaus", ie the largest hospital of Austria, is also in Alsergrund.

check out the Vienna Opera House. For non-opera fans... hey wait! Don't run away just yet... The one thing you really shouldn't miss is to see the world famous Vienna Boys Choir in concert. You can actually catch a glimpse of these young boys by attending Sunday Mass. Don't panic! It's alright. :-) They are just merely following an age old tradition where the Vienna Boys' Choir sings the Sunday Mass over at the Chapel of the Hofburg. Don't miss it.

P.S. You need to buy tickets to see them.
