Great Budget Hotel/Hostel
I stayed in a single with shared bath here for a few days. It was a perfect find! It's reputation is as a quiet, mellow hostel - just what I was looking for. Ruthensteiner seems to attract quieter crowd of travelers than one would normally expect in a hostel. Although there's no curfew, the halls and common areas were quiet at night. The staff were polite and helpful.
Unique Quality: It's very near (easy walking distance) to the West Bahnhof Train Station, where buses to/from the airport are available. My room was exceltionally clean, as were all of the facilities. I was pleased with the common areas and kitchen, making it feel very welcoming and comfortable.
A small fruit stand/grocery is just around the corner. The neighborhood felt very safe at all hours.

Great Hostel/Apartment!
If you are looking for a nice, clean, fun hostel... this is the place for you!
My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary in September 2008. Everything about this hostel is great, starting with the location to the Westbahnhof train station (about 3 blocks) and other public transportation, which allows you very easy access to all parts of the city.
Since we stayed in one of the apartments, I cannot attest to the dorm rooms (although, I heard no complaints from other travelers). However, I can tell you that if you get the opportunity to stay in on of their apartments... TAKE IT! Ours was beautiful! It was modern with wood floors, a full kitchen (including dishes, pans, etc.), living area, dining table, separate bedroom, bathroom, our own balcony with patio garden that overlooked the courtyard of the hostel.
Unique Quality: The staff and atmosphere are welcoming and cheerful. And, the facilities include - onsite laundry room, computers with internet access, free wireless internet with your own laptop, a bar, musical instruments to play (free of charge), full kitchen and BBQ, free lockers, book trade (give a book/take a book), etc. Also, it is smoke-free, and there is NO CURFEW! I HIGHLY recommend staying here!

Good beer and cheap thrills
A hostel with cheap and delicious beer on tap can only be enjoyed properly if you drink in excess, throw up all over your room, yell at other guests, and get promptly booted out for your antics.

Vienna's Best Hostel ever !
I was really lucky to have found this hostel in Vienna. I was very satisfied with everything related to the hostel, the atmosphere is great and cosy, people are very nice and it's just 2 stops from the central part of VIenna. It's a very easy place to get to and the services are great.
Unique Quality: - music instruments available
- All staff speak German & English; some speak French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Czech and Serbocroatian.
- Smoke-free environment in all the rooms.
- Laundromat in house.
- OPEN 24 hours a day.
- Opinion of Price: about average

Hostel Ruthensteiner
Youth hostel located about 10-15 minutes from the train Station.
There are several tipes of bedrroms, we stayed in a big one with other 30 people but it was OK.
There is a garden inside the hostal where you can tolk and meet other people. Most of them are young people.
There is also a living room with a pair of guitars.
We had a really good time!! ;-]
PD: Internet is also available.

Good Hostel Near the Westbanhof
Continuing with my hostel life, I arrived in Vienna at 1 in the morning. With everything closed and no one to ask directions, I was a little apprehensive. However, following my guidebooks directions to Hostel Ruthensteiner could not have been easier. The hostel is located about 1kilometer away from the Westbanhof, goping away from the city.
It was extremely clean, friendly and convient to the city via the metro or by the more pleasant walk through the beautiful streets of Vienna.
Do not pay for the breakfast, as it was vastly insufficient and over-priced; the only negative about this hostel.

Nice hostel close to U-Bahn (subway train)
After I have decided to visit Vienna over the weekend it was quite easy to arrange everything over Internet. I wanted to book double room but they said they could not garantee it. They offered beds in dorms and if there is free room on the day of our arrival to keep it for us. And actually it really happened - they were very well aware of our arrangement and we got double room.
It is certainly not lavish but rather basic place but quite in good order. It is located well just about 5 minutes away from Westbahnhof U-Bahn station.

I stayed at the Ruthensteiner...
I stayed at the Ruthensteiner Hostel, it is a very nice hostel with clean rooms. Lockers for your stuff in the rooms, breakfast in the morning and internet access so you can brag to your friends how beautifull Vienna is.
Unique Quality: If you get up early enough you can have the warm bread rolls for breakfast :)

It was a few years ago, but, clean and comfortable and very busy. Good location close to public transport, we enjoyed ourselves there. Have fun!
