I stayed at Hotel Kugel for 1 night and was very pleased with the service and the value offered. The hotel is situated very close to the Ringerstrasse - a walk or a short tram ride - and is close to everything you need in the downtown. The staff was very courteous and helpful and breakfast was adequate.
This hotel seems very popular with local students, visiting studnts on holiday, and backpackers alike. The accomodations were nice and the location is within a short walk to most sights. The price was outstanding and the place wasnt as loud at night as you would expect with the number of young students that were staying here. We had a room with a canopy bed and private bathroom and shower for aroun $90 a night. The room was clean. The only minor problems we had was the fact that the entire bed 1 supported by 1 bed slat and the bed sagged severely on the first 2 nights. This was fixed for night 3. Also we had to climb over and around school kids hanging out in the halls and right outside our room just to get to the elevator. Breakfast is included with the rate, but this amounts to bread butter and cheese. I would advise you to search out a coffee house for a more fitting Viennese breakfast.
Right up the road from a fantastic brewery (7 stern brau). You have to try this place. The best spareribs in Austria.
There are other restaurants and nightspots on this street within 3-5 minutes walking from hotel.
Bring the address with you if you dont speak German. My wife and I had a little game going to see if the taxi driver would understand when I would say "Hotel Kugel". I tried to pronounce "Kugel" 100 different ways and no one seemed to work. Even when I used one's pronunciation, the other drivers pronounced it differently.
