2 stars, each room is unique

Hotel Urania is a 2 stars hotel worth your money, in a quiet street and with a really frinedly owner: a huge man with two incredibly tiny dogs that he often carries around in the palm of his hands... ask hm about the dogs and he'll keep you busy for hours... one of them (the"bonsai" white poodle) has been in many films and TV series, and he'll show you pictures and tell you stories.

The hotel is in the third district but very convenient to the centre (it's possible to walk there in about 15-20 minutes) and two tram stops away from the Prater. The Kunsthaus and Hudertwasserhaus are only a couple of minutes away. The fast boats to Bratislava and Budapest leave from nearby.

Unique Quality: Each room is decorated in a different way: we ended up in the Jugenstil room (and wondered why it had so many egyption paintings on the wall)... still it was a very nice room and, in particular, spacious and cosy - the price was 85 euros. Each room has a TV and private bathroom, but no hairdryer. Prices start from 70 euros up.

At reception there's a photo album of all the rooms, so in theory you could pick the one you like most. The African room seemed really nice but the best of all (and most expensinve, too - at 140 euros) is the Acropolis room, with a round bath and whirpool.

Breakfast is quite good.

Nice 2-star hotel in Vienna

A fun 2-star hotel with in a quiet but still central location. Good buffet breakfast is included in the price. A single room is 55 and double 70 euros.

Unique Quality: Each room is decorated with a theme (kngiht's boudoir with animal skins, Japanese style, Jugend etc.).

  • Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

All-around good value

Despite being a little out of the way, the Hotel Urania is a very good deal. Each room has a different theme (which can be a little on the tacky side), but between the rooms themselves and breakfast, it's a good place to stay.

Unique Quality: Within a ten-minute walk, you could be at either the Hundertwasser Haus, Schwedenplatz or across the canal in the Prater.

Almost on the banks of the Donau (Danube)

I have stayed in the hotel several times, and have always found it to be a welcoming and relaxing place to stay.

It has been refurbished since my last visit, and the publicity materials seem to show a positive improvement.
