Youth hostel
We stayed in a 6 bed room, with bathroom. It was all was very clean and modern.
The breakfast was good and was included in the price along with clean bed-linen.

Hostel at Friedrich Engels Platz
Hostel Brigittenau is a pretty big hostel. It is also pretty clean and the rooms are nice. Emmanuelle and I had a double room-bunk beds, a table, two closets, a sink and mirror. The bathrooms and showers were down the hall.
It was a pretty busy place, with all kinds of people in and out of there, but they all seemed to keep to themselves and there wasn't any kind of meeting place or hang out that we could find.
Unique Quality: Breakfast was pretty good, with rolls, cheese, cold cuts, butter, jam, and coffee, tea and hot cocoa included in the price. There were also other things like yogurt and orange juice that you had to play extra for. They also served lunch and dinner for a price.
There isn't a whole lot going on at Friedrich Engels Platz, but there is a mall next to the Subway Station. It's pretty big and new, with a movie theater, H&M, a grocery store, fast food and a couple sit-down restaurants.

Jugendgastehaus Wien Brigittenau (HI)
In 1996 it was 140AS per person.
Unique Quality: 24 hour reception, 6 night max stay & lockout 9am to 3pm. Dorms as well as doubles (same price). lockers, free breakfast. Nice clean hostel. I was only there for one night so didn't spend a lot of time there but there was a TV room and I believe it had an outdoor area for BBQs etc
