Apartment in inner city

by valtor

We found Vienna Old Town Apartments , one apartm. for two people, 45 m2, Naglergasse 19. It seems good as location and facilities.
Is somebody who stayed in this apartment and can advise if is it OK?

Meantime I found also Pension Sacher in Stephansplatz; at 7th floor, a studio 42 m2. There are very good opinion about this Pension and about the very kind owners.

I am not sure which of them is better, it is difficult to decide. Both are very centrally.

This in Naglergasse can be booked via booking.com which I know. Sacher can be booked directly, I think that they will ask for money transfer, as they do not work with credit cards.

Do you see any major plus for one of these pensions in comparison with the another one?

I am not familiar with the Naglergasse apartments but I have stayed at Pension Sacher several times since 1999.

All but one of the apartments looks down on Stephansplatz (the square outside St Stephans cathedral), at about roof level with the cathedral. From most rooms you'll get a unique eye-level view of the beautiful tiled roof, and a birds-eye view of the horse and carriages waiting in the street below, and all the action in the square.

The location is unbeatable, the building is secure, and there is a Ubahn station in the square below. There is a bakery next door (or perhaps next but one)and a supermarket within easy walking distance.

Everything is clean, and your hostess is friendly, knowledgable and speaks English very well. The rooms are warm in winter and beds are comfy and clean. The kitchens are quite small (you wouldn't want to entertain a large party) but stocked with all you need to prepare your own meals during your stay. Plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance if you decide not to self cater.

Be aware that the decor is rather old fashioned - although I consider that to be part of the charm. I simply recommend you check the room photos on the website so you are clear about what you are getting in terms of furnishing etc - this is not the decor of a 5 star hotel, but it is definitely a 5 star location.

You can walk from here to anywhere in central Vienna, or easily walk to the Ubahn in the square below, or to the Swedenplatz tramstop a few blocks away if you prefer to use public transport.

Thank you, Kakapo.
Unfortunately, Sacher pension informed me that they have no free rooms for my dates.
So, I booked the other one - Old Vienna Apartm, Nagler street. It seems to be a very good location, but I did not find many reviews in internet.
I used booking.com and it was the last free apartment.
For the price of 99 Euro and its location, I think that is OK to have a small apartment.
At my return I'll write here my opinion about it.

Travel Tips for Vienna

Districts / Transport & bikes / Outdoor restaurant

by lobopequeno

Hi,

that's a load of questions, the very general ones are best answered by a travel guide such as Lonely P. ect

2- the city is divided into 22 districts. No 1 is the very city centre, no 2-9 and 20 are also close. This system has it's limits but as a rule of thumb: When looking for accomodation, check its postal code as it tells you about the proximity to the inner city 1010 = 1. district, 1020 = 2. district, 1210 = 21. district, ect.

4-public transport is a good bet. Buses, subways, ect bring you everywhere and are reasonably priced for Western European standards. A 24-h-ticket is good choice if you have several stops during a day.
The yellow and blue rental bikes which you find all over the inner city districts are your sunshine alternative. You can register with your credit card, the first hour is always free - enough to go from A to B.

5- As you travel in June, the Summer Stage might be already open. It's a nice terrace at the Donau, good food, always busy with locals.
The restaurants / bars at the Museumsquartier (MQ) are also recommendable if you wanna get a summer feel for Vienna - plenty of young people & students, often live acts or artists around.

Have fun,

lobopequeno Mostly miss the great possibilities for long distance runners in and around Vienna. Run the Prater and completely forget that you are in larger city.

Walk the old city at night and admire the palaces and structure in the night light. Funny, running into a Spaniard at a bar and chatting for hours in Spanish, but of course, about Vienna and its people!

Albertina

explore the grounds and garden of the famed Belvedere Palace - Prince Eugene of Savoy's palatial residence. Yes, this Baroque era Palace and its amazing combination of royal apartments, gardens AND art galleries is a must-see when visiting Vienna. Grab your cameras now and strike your best poses!! :-)) Oh, and please note it's opening hours too (very important!):

Open: Tuesdays through Sundays; from 10:00AM - 05:00PM.

explore the entire Ringstraße...

by Krystynn

explore the entire Ringstraße area... and see the many magnificent buildings located there. Amongst those not-to-be-missed landmarks include the Parliament, City Hall, Burgtheater and Kunsthistorisches Museum.

Photo Below: Here's a photo of the City Hall. Nice! Did you know that the Austrian Parliament Building was designed by Danish architect, Theophil von Hansen, using a Greek temple as his inspiration?

Today, it is definitely one of the most magnificent buildings on the Ringstraße. Don't miss the eye-catching Pallas Athena Fountain in front of the building's driveway. Cool.
