transportation

by bscorneaux

Is it correct if you arrive at Vienna a Wednesday that you can not buy a weekly pass, you need to buy a 8 day pass.
Thanks for your help
Sincerely
Bernard

Re: transportation

I didn't find any info on a weekly pass, but here are all the tickets available for tourists: http://www.wienerlinien.at/wl/ep/channelView.do?channelId=-17256&pageTypeId=10220.

Re: transportation

by globetrott

That is NONSENSE !!!
I think you can buy it untill friday or so, BUT that would not make sense then anymore.
72hours is 14 euros and of course you have to stamp it and then the 72 hours start running and could be also valid over the weekend like sat-tuesday
1 week is 14,50, that has the week printed on it and once you have it, you cannot change it, but it is valid untill MONday 09.00am next week.Weekly tickets dont need to be validated, as they have the dates of the week printed on it already !
8days is 28,80 (and can be any days as long as the tarif isnt changed, so I still use one such ticket for 3 years now, whenever I need a single day of transport.
8days ticket can also be shared by 2 and more people travelling togeather, simply cancel 1 stripe for each person !

Re: transportation

small correction, thanks to the link fo marielle:
13,60 for 72hours
14,- for the week
---
b.t.w.:Viennaticket does mostly NOT make sense !
its the same thing with the over-advertised CAT!
Take the airportbus or the S-bahn instead !

Re: transportation

by marielexoteria

It is odd indeed...
Yes, take the S-bahn, it was easy to use and you can buy your ticket at the airport and start using it then.

Re: transportation

by globetrott

any of these week-, 72h- etc. -tickets are valid on the S-bahn BUT you also have to buy 1 extra ticket (=Einzelfahrschein) for 1,80 euros in each direction from and to the airport, as the airport is a bit OUTside of the citylimits of Zone100 of Vienna.
And you have to cancel that ticket before you enter the S-bahn !
So in the case you have a 72-h etc. ticket anyway for Vienna you pay just 1,80 euros for the transport from airport to Vienna, while the CAT is around 9 euros each direction and airportbus is around 6 euros

Re: transportation

Indeed. The machines where to cancel the ticket are right on the platform, so they're impossible to miss.

Travel Tips for Vienna

Walking tour of the city

by William1982

The best thing to do in Vienna is just take a wander around the ringstrasse and take in the fantastic architecture and grandeur of Europe's true culture capital. You could also take in a few museums around the Museum Quarter, including the modern art gallery, which usually has 'an interesting collection' on show.

Downtown Vienna Austrian Airlines Check In

by MarieGutscher

You can check in at City Air Terminal in Vienna for your flight before getting onto the train (CAT) in town from two to twenty four hours before your flight leaves! This was awesome! Every city should have one. This feature drastically cut down the time I spent queuing at the airport! Believe me, if you’ve ever stood in line (what line?) at the Vienna airport you’ll know it’s not an experience to relish.

The City Air Terminal was excellent with four check-in counters and eight automatic check-in machines (four with baggage deposit facilities)! There is no better way to check into an airport!

Apfelstrudel

by ealgisi

Apfelstrudel is a traditional pastry of Austria and a popular dish in many countries that once belonged to the Austro-Hungarian empire. It is the most widely known kind of strudel.

Well if you like sweet, don't miss that, you are inside the country who is really specialist in making that, in every way, so taste it, well the portions are usually pretty big, so enjoy it and lick your mustache :)

The tourists

by iandsmith

There are some 1.7 million people visit this palace annually and you can certainly add a few thousand more who use the gardens for which there is no fee.
The eclectic mix of visitors is exemplified in this photograph and the high months are July/August while December/January/February will find you with few people to rub elbows with.

Generally tipping is expected in Vienna

by morgenhund

If you buy drinks in a bar then tipping is pretty much standard - if you pay €3.20 for a beer say, then you're more or less expected to pay €3.50 for the beer. Whilst there is no hard and fast rule, in terms of the percentage tip, it is expected. In restaurants, typically approx 10% is expected as a tip - anything less might be met with a slightly askance look.
