Melange
After you check in, you can have one free drink at the bar in this hotel. Melange(half coffee, half milk) is a typical Viennese coffee specialty.
I love those sugars also :D
The Belvedere Hotel is a located in the old Government Printing Works Building, Hence it has fantasticaly big hallways and rooms, but is somewhat gives you a cold feeling and is a considerable distance from the centre of Vienna's ring road. There is a tram stop outside and a fantastically good beer keller next door "Salm Brau". Does have limited facilities, no swimming pool, no gym, sauna etc. It is mainly used by executives and is located within the diplomatic quarter of Vienna. Not recommended for families on vacation.
Directions: Diplomatic Quarter and next door to Belvedere Palace.

This is another Hotel (Hotel Amarante Vienna ) my travel agent suggested. Can anyone tell me how the neighborhood is and if it really is within a mile of the center? How does it compare to the Nh Belvedere?
THANKS
Three or four days is all you really need to see Vienna.
I wish my wife & I had a friend. We will have to figure a lot out by ourselves which I don't look forward to the stress of. The benefits far out weigh the negative of it though. Thanks for your reply
This may be a silly suggestion, but have you and your wife looked at travel guides? You know what special interests you have, and the books can help you narrow down to a "must see" list. I would recommend the "Eyewitness Travel Guide to Vienna" which was a great help in the planning and enjoying of my trip.
We planned each day in advance, allowing plenty of time for unexpected finds.
I agree that I am lucky to have a friend in Vienna - I speak no German!
Good luck!:)
I visited Vienna for a week in October, and could have stayed much longer. I was lucky to have a friend there, and we never stopped until late each day with the sightseeing. It is such an incredible city! We took several short trips to nearby locations of interest - Mayerling, Heiligenkreuz, the Roman ruins at Carnuntum, Kahlenberg, the Danube National Park area, drives through the Vienna Woods, etc., as well as seeing the sights in the city. Beautiful!
Hope your trip is as great as mine was!:)
Hotel Amarante is not in a nice area of Vienna, much traffic around; it looks ok from outside, i haven`t seen the rooms. it`s close to the main train station. By tram or bus you`ll reach the centre quite fast.
unfortunately I don`t know NH Belvedere, so I can`t compare it...
