We stayed at the Top Hotel Papageno last weekend (31.5-3.6 2007) and it was perfect. The location couldn't be better for getting into town and everywhere. It's on the red U1 one which "cuts" through the city so changing to other lines is super easy. There is also a very handy supermarket called Billa (NOTE: it closes at four on Saturday) in the corner of Mozartgasse and Wiedner Hauptstraße, about 40 meters from the door of the hotel (to the left- on the way to U-bahn) We had room number 37 on the so-called Mezzanine (first) floor. The room faced an inner courtyard which had the glass roof of the breakfast area downstairs but we didn't mind- we didn't go to Vienna to look out of the hotel room window! The staff are very friendly and efficient: we wanted to have an extra pillow each and they had been delivered while we were out. We also wanted to know if we could use the Viennacard to travel on the tram to Grinzing and the lady at the front desk wasn't quite sure so she phoned up the Wiener Linien company (Vienna's Transports Authority) immediately. The room had the usual furniture: writing table & chair, arm chair, TV with 33 channels (local and satellite including BBC Prime and MTV), reading lamps etc. There's wine and normal glasses as well. You can take the room key with you or leave it in the reception, the front door to the hotel is open 24 hours a day. Please note: the hotel shares the building with other businesses and private flats so when you first arrive it looks like you're going to a normal block of flats. The hotel entrance is at the end of the hallway. For evening meals there are loads of traditional restaurants (and bars) nearby, the Hotels own webpage has some tips plus the staff will be happy to direct you if you need tips in where to dine/drink. So - all in all a very pleasant stay. The hotel is quiet, clean and the staff are pleasant. And the main thing is the perfect location. The room was big and it had lovely large windows to let in a lot of light. The beds were very comfy as were the duvets and pillows. The bathroom was modern and huge, the hot water was HOT and towels were nice. The complimentary breakfast (served between 7-10 am) was good, all sorts of hot and cold stuff including sausages, scrambled eggs, loads of differends breads, choice of cold meats, cheese, orange and other juices, mineral water, cereals etc etc. The waitresses come and ask if you would like tea or coffee. There is free tea and coffee available at all times in the reception lobby as well. There is internet connections in the rooms if you've got your own lead and a free internet in the reception lobby.
