English subtitled cinemas

by jkthompson72

Hi, I'm planning a trip to Vienna for a few days (March 24th - 26th), and one of the things I'd really like to do while there is catch a screening of Austrian director Michael Haneke's "Das weisse Band" (The White Ribbon), which I've been wanting to see for quite some time and I think it would be very cool to see it in Haneke's home country. I found a few locations in town that are showing it (the Metro Kino is supposed to be quite nice, I think), but I wonder is there any place that will show it with English subtitles? I don't suppose there's any way I can contact a theater in advance and request English subtitles?

Thank you for any help!

Re: English subtitled cinemas

http://www.burgkino.at/
and
http://www.haydnkino.at/
are the only english cinemas in Vienna that I know of and to be honest I doubt very much that there is a version with subtitles already of this rather new film.
these 2 cinemas will have original versions in english
and subtitles do not really make sense then there, nor would they make sense in any other cinema in Austria for a movie that was made in Austria !

Travel Tips for Vienna

Anker Clock (Ankeruhr)

by dvideira

This clock (built 1911 - 1917) was created by the painter and sculptor Franz von Matsch.
It is situated on the oldest square of Vienna 'Hoher Markt' and represents a typical Art Nouveau design.
It forms a bridge between two buildings of the Anker Insurance Company's.

Combined Museum Tickets

by Jmill42

If you are wanting to view all or most of the museums that Vienna has to offer, you should consider buying a combination ticket. There are a few available, so you can pick and chose the museums you want to see.

Three different combinations valid for three months:

Gold: € 23.-

Kunsthistorisches Museum, Schatzkammer, Neue Burg, Österreichisches Theatermuseum, Wagenburg, Lipizzaner Museum

Silver: € 21.-

Kunsthistorisches Museum, Schatzkammer, Neue Burg, Österreichisches Theatermuseum

Bronze: € 19.-

Kunsthistorisches Museum, Schatzkammer, Neue Burg

Students should be aware that it is cheaper to buy them seperately at the door for vastly reduce rates. Some are nice enough to let you in for free!

Gluhwein in the street, the sound of a dream

by primaverita

So, since I worked for three whole months in Viena in the Sissi and Frans Jozef museum ( Kaiserappartments, Silberkammer part) I most remember the gluhwein I drank during my breaks. It was freezing inside the museum so a little drink with a local was the best I can remember. And after work, walking through the streets decorated, with classical music played by streetmusicians....Now that I´m here in Seville ( 2004) I remember the cold, the leaves of autumn on the ground, the people iceskating, the mozart kugeln ( yes I like alcohol). Viena´s atmosfere is best at winter/ christmastime
