Lots of Space!

We had learned rather late that we were going to Vienna during the Euro 2008 and of course most places I checked were either fully booked or far too expensive. On the Vienna pages of VT Member Globetrott I read about this hotel, mailed them asking for a triple and got a reservation.
I had expected a triple like I know them from London, three beds crammed into one room and when you need to use the bathroom you have to climb over the extra bed. So I was very pleasantly surprised when our triple in the Pension Dr Geissler turned out to be a flat with two bedrooms, a bathroom , a seperate toilet and a hallway. It was great to have so much space to move!
It seems the building is a mixture of apartments for tenants and some hotel rooms. This was just perfect for us. It is an old building, something that can especially be seen in the bathroom with its very small bathtub. The water pressure was very good, though.

Our double faced the street and it was noisy at night. We live in the city centre and are used to street noise, but someone from a quieter area might have problems sleeping. The matraces were firm, though, and made sleeping very easy. My son's room faced a yard and was much quieter.

The location is excellent, about a 10 minutes walk to the Stephansdom, maybe five minutes to an underground station. It says on the website the airport bus stops directly opposite the hotel, this is no longer the case as we found out after walking around for half an hour. The bus stop is now on the opposite end of the Schwedenplatz.
A good breakfast is included in the price. We paid 116 Euro per night , a really good price for this location.

If you have problems walking, this is not the place to go, however. There is an elevator, but in order to get there you have to walk up about ten steep steps directly behind the entrance door. Impossible for anybody with walking problems.

Room 34 - a great room for families of 4

There is one of the rooms of Pension Dr. Geissler that is perfect for families of a total of up to 4 people and the total prices for 4 people per day including breakfast-buffet are :
119 euros in the high season :
(March, May, June, September and October, December)
114,- euros in intermediate season (April,July&Aug.) and
105,- euros in low season :
(January-March)

Unique Quality: Room #34 is a combination of 2 rooms and has a total of 4 beds : 2 single beds in one room and a doublebed in another room, these 2 rooms share the same bathroom with a washbasin and bathtub, that you can get to only when you walk through the room with the doublebed.
For good friends and families that would certainly be no problem.
So this rooms has its own facilities, EXcept the toilet, that is OUTside of the room and you will share it with just 1 other room on this corridor.

Functional

Not amazing, but not bad. I paid through the nose for my single room though because I ended up in Vienna on a holiday weekend. I won't hold that against them though as everyone charges more.
It's not a bad place. The room was clean, but the furnishings were pretty outdated. Breakfast service was good and the location (inside the Inner Stadt) in combination with the price is probably pretty hard to beat.
If you're willing to go without a restroom in your room, then I hear that the prices get quite good. It's also a good place to meet other budget-minded travellers.

Unique Quality: The name has to be one of the stranger names at a hotel I've stayed at.

a good place for VTers & globetrotters

Pension Dr. Geissler is a 3star-pension in the very centre of Vienna, just about 200 meters from Schwedenplatz or from Stephansdom. See their web-page, it has the same management as Pension Neuer Markt. Something quite interesting for VT-members & VT-meetings might be the fact, that appartments with a total of 5 beds in different rooms are available for reasonable prices.
I used to work in this hotel until some time ago,
BUT that is "history" now !

Unique Quality: When reserving a room in Pension Dr.Geissler you will have to give your Creditcard-number + and expiration-date, (that has to be still valid when you arrive). These numbers will be olny CHECKED electronically and will be used ONLY to reserve the room. Money will be DEDUCTED from your creditcard JUST IN CASE that you will not arrive - so they NEVER deduct anything before the reserved date of arrival !!
I think this is a really good system for the hotel & the customers !!
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
This Pension is perfect, when you arrive by train or plane:
the hotel-bus will meet you for 10 Euros at the airport
for 7 Euros at the train-stations of Vienna -
you simply have to book it when reserving the room !
When you stay at least 7 days - the pick-up is free !!
In Vienna's centre parking-charges will apply
Monday till Friday between 09.00a.m. and 10.00p.m.
in the centre of Vienna, when you arrive by car,
and so the reception will help you to find a good parking for you:
there is a limited number of day-tickets for parking in the centre, it is just 4,60 Euros per day, BUT you have to find a free parking-lot on your own...
Parking at various garages is available at the reception
for prices between 11 and 14 Euros a day !
When arriving at Schwedenplatz and turning right into Postgasse, be carefull, not to collide with the tram, you will have to cross its rails of both directions, so watch out for them, when entering Postgasse.
Tram ALWAYS goes first in Vienna !!

excellent location

Stayed here for a few nights, top class location for price, although shower room is tiny and a bit of a pain running around after the key. Still good value for money.

One day in Vienna

by likusik

Hello,
I am passing through Vienna, flying in on Sunday, June 1 in the evening and leaving Vienna on Tuesday, June 3 in the morning. I'm traveling with my parents and looking for help on hotel for two nights and a city tour. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thank you!

that part of june is not so crowded yet, the 1st soccer-game in Vienna is 8th of June, so it should be easy to find a room.
Pension Dr. Geissler is the place where I am working, in the very centre of town, 200 meters to walk to the cathedral
3bed-rooms are 115 euros including breakfastbuffet
dr.geissler@hotelpension.at
the citytour is something you can do on your own with a transportation-dayticket for just 5,70 euro or a 3-hour organized tour for 35 euros p.p.
