Ideal location
My room had 2 beds, a sink, table + chairs and a cupboard. I was able to borrow a hair dryer from reception. Shower was through the communal kitchen. Toilet was a little further down the hall. There is a lift, but it doesn't stop on each floor. Breakfast was included and served in a lovely breakfast room. Pension is clean and secure. All staff are very friendly and can offer information on what to see and do.
Unique Quality: Location, location, location. Could walk to all the major sites. U-Bahn train station is about a 10 minute walk away. 2 supermarkets are within a 5 minute walk.

Pension Wild - Inexpensive, convenient, and nice
I had a very difficult time finding inexpensive accommodations in Vienna, but when I finally found Pension Wild it appeared to be a good place. It looks like the kind of pension that could be very run down if the owners let it get that way, but fortunately it is very well taken care of. Although the entry way doesn't look like much and doesn't make a very good first impression, our room was clean and nicely decorated considering the price we paid. It is also on a quiet side street, which is a very nice benefit. The best part was the outstanding breakfast buffet served in a very nice dining room downstairs, with more food than you could possibly need to get your day started. The hotel manager, Peter Wild, even personally worked in the dining room on our first morning and served tea and coffee to guests.
The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was that our room had an overpowering strong smell of stale cigarette smoke, but we managed to air it out fairly well by leaving the windows open during the day. It's hard to know whether that was just our room or of other rooms were similarly afflicted.
Unique Quality: One warning: On the web site Pension Wild is advertised as being "gay friendly," and at the hotel itself they actually have a gay-only spa somewhere. There are ads in a little kiosk for it and also for "gay Vienna." We weren't exactly sure what kind of place we had checked into when we saw all this, but at breakfast the next morning it was the same kind of clientele you would expect in any hotel (men and women of all ages, singles, married couples, children, etc.). Don' t let the emphasis on gay life scare you away one bit. I never once felt uncomfortable there. It is definitely NOT a gay-only hotel. Then again, if you are looking for a gay-friendly place, Pension Wild certainly appears to qualify.

Pension Wild - A great bargain
We stayed at Pension Wild in Vienna. It was a good bargain. For forty five Euros we had a clean and comfortable room, breakfast buffet in the morning, and a courteous staff. The room is only two blocks from the nearest Metro stop which made it convenient. And the neighborhhood as safe and not threatening in any way.
Unique Quality: The Pension Wild is listed as a gay friendly bed and breakfast. But everyone is welcome and there was a pleasant mix of straight and gay people at the pension while we were there. Anyone in search of good bargain should check out the accomodations.

Cheap Pension in Vienna
Pension Wild is a little pension not far away from all the main attractions in Vienna. We picked this place because of the price and the nice web site. The rooms are very basic and ours had no TV (not a big deal). We opted for the toilet down the hall, but all rooms come with a sink in the room. The hotel was very quiet and clean. Breakfast was large and included some nice surprises. The neighborhood is really charming and there are a few decent bars within walking distance.
The hotel advertises itself as "gay friendly", but we noticed both straight and gay couples. There is a spa in the basement that is "male only". But, my wife wouldn't let me go. She insisted it wasn't a men's club. Oh bother.

Public transportation from airport to hotel?
I'll be staying at Pension Wild, located at 10 Lange Gasse (near the intersection of Lercherfelder Strasse and Lange Gasse). According to the hotel's web site it is accessible by the underground metro using the Volkstheater station, by bus 13a, or tram 46. Which is the easiest way to get to my hotel from the airport? Can someone please give me directions about what lines I need to take and where I need to transfer? The maps I have looked at have not helped much. Thank you.
Re: Public transportation from airport to hotel?
I always depended on the coach that travelled between Schwechat and Wien-Mitte because trains tended to have problems on the tracks or had short hours of service. The advantages of the coach are that it is cheap, quick, and convenient for luggage-carriers. As a bonus, it is above ground, so you can enjoy an introductory tour of Vienna.
I would suggest that, when you arrive at Schwechat, you take the coach (look for the direction Landstrasse-Wien Mitte). When you arrive at Wien Mitte, cross the road and enter the U-bahn station. Go downstairs and catch the U3 (yellow line) in the direction of Ottakring. When you hear the voice say "Volkstheater" then you have reached your stop. From there, you are only 2 blocks away from Pension Wild. Viel Spass!
Re: Re: Public transportation from airport to hotel?
Wait, I just checked the airport site, and it seems that there is no longer coach service to Wien-Mitte; instead there is a train, but for 9 Euros ...
There is a coach costing 6 Euros that will depart Schwechat and take you to Schwedenplatz in 20 minutes, so from there, take the U2 (purple line) in the direction of Karlsplatz. When you hear "Volkstheater", that's your stop.
