A great base from which to explore Vienna

The staff at Hotel Praterstern is very friendly and efficient. When there was a problem with the lights in our room, it was quickly fixed. The hotel is across the street from a bar, so if your room faces the street, you may get a first-hand view of life in the city!

Unique Quality: What makes this hotel attractive is its great location, a short walk from both the Nestroyplatz and Praterstern U-Bahn stations. It is less expensive than average because it is not located in the touristy First District of Vienna; interestingly, it is closer to the Danube, the Hundertwasser buildings and, of course, the Prater itself (with the well-known Riesenrad ferris wheel).

Hi, I was in Vienna 2 years ago, and stayed at hotel praterstern, cheap enough (singles from 27 euros), includes breakfast from memory, and they are very friendly so great if you are travelling by yourself. Their website is: http://members.aon.at/hotelpraterstern/. Cheers, Ingrid

You might want to consider staying near or around Landstrasse-Wien Mitte. This is the 2nd/3rd District and is actually quite near to the city centre. You have several Hundertwasser buildings in the area there and also a major shopping street. If you cross the street from the U-bahn Station, you have a direct link to the Airport using a coach. That leaves once every 30 mins or so, or perhaps frequency has been improved since I moved away.

You might also want to consider staying around the Sudbahnhof area, where you are near to the Belvedere Palaces and can walk right into town. The S7 train will take you straight to Schwechat as well.

Oh yes, the Hotel Praterstern. It seems that they have undergone some renovations.

Although Prater has a reputation for being the rundown district of Vienna, it is centrally located. Praterstern is a major station and has the U1, S3 and S7 running through it. The S7 takes you straight to the airport as well.
