So much architecture and...
by bonio
So much architecture and history here, but, for me it has to be .... The big wheel in Prater Park. If you've ever seen or read The Third Man you must remember the big wheel, and this is it. Superb!! Great memory, the whole park is a good afternoon out, I guess it's best at weekends.
Vienna Tip
by lengyelp
A reception in the Rathaus. When you enter the building, you gasp. Then, when you step into the main hall... no more words. An incredibly large hall, with all the decorations you would expect in an imperial ballroom, e.g. in the 'Sissi': chandeliers, mirrors, gilded ornaments, French windows with a beautiful view from them, a Viennese orchestra playing... The only thing I missed was a crowd of people in 19th century clothes dancing waltz (Well, there was quite a big crowd, but nobody was dancing. Instead, everybody was devouring the mountains of delicacies served.)

Visit the Kunsthistoriches Museum. There are acres of galleries of magnificent art, but you can also have coffee and a cake in the cafe on the balcony, looking up into the dome if you get the right seat!
Zentralfriedhof - Inge Konradi memorial
by yooperprof
Zentralfriedhof really should be considered a "must see" in Vienna - it's easily one of the most spectacular cemetaries in the world. Hard to believe, but the remains of 2.5 million people are here! It's the only cemetary that I know of that has it's own internal bus service. You should really been a picnic and make a day of it here, as I did. There's a great deal of interest to be seen - and it should be remembered that this is still an active and functioning cemetary. For example, this is the very recentlyt completed memorial to the great Viennese actress Inge Konradi (1924-2002) She was a child actress in the 1930s, and continued to work in film and in Vienna's Volkstheater, the Burgtheater, and the Theater in der Josefstadt until her death. (Once theater is in your blood, there's no cure.)
