We stayed here for two nights in 2004 on the Inter Rail trip. The West End Hostel is located only 5 mins walk from West Banhoff and I have to say it was a wonderful place. The staff are very helpful and the rooms are clean, airy and spacious. It has internet access, a great eating area (price includes breakfast) and beer from a machine.
The price was about 19yoyos per person in a room for 4 with private shower and toilet. This was about average for Vienna but compared to my last hostel in 1994, this was the Hilton!!
The location is fairly central for shopping and eating. Avoiding the touristy areas cos the prices are a lot lower. To get to the touristy spots the nearest tram/metro is 2 mins walk away and the buses are just around the corner. Expect to walk about an hour to St. Stephen's Platz. Or get a lift of a man in a Porsche 911 - haha!!!
I'd recommend this place very highly.
Unique Quality: If I had to make any negaitve remark it was the glass door on the loo (toilet) in our room which we shared with a German couple. Anyone could easily see you 'dropping the kids off at the pool' - if you catch my drift.
Directions: When you leave Westbanhoff go straight across the main road and veer to your right. You'll be at the top of a large shopping street and now should be on the right side of the street. Take a right turn BEFORE you go down this street. You're 30 secs away.
