Recommeded Hostel
I stayed one night at Wombat's hostel in Vienna before travelling on to rural Austria. It was within a few minutes walking distance of Westbahnhof so getting around wiht luggage was not a problem. Rooms were clean and quiet; prices was very reasonable.

Vienna's best
I loved this place. It was close to the train station and the staff was really friendly. The rooms were really neat. The downstairs bar was a great place to meet people and play some pool.

a highly recommended hostel in vienna
i stayed in wombat's for 3 nights, and i think it's a pretty good hostel with a nice pub and good security! the staff are friendly and the rooms are neat and clean too! the buffet breakfast is pretty nice but would be better if there are more varieties of food.
Unique Quality: the faclities are new, and the rooms are neat and it's really close to the westbahnhoff ( within walking distance )

Nice and Clean
It's probably one of the best hostels I've ever stayed. I stayed in a room of 6 beds. It was bright and very clean. It cost 16 euros and 3.5 for breakfast in September, 2004. The only setback is its location. It's located behind the Westbahnhof. It was a bit dark and scary for me to head back from the main street late at night. Try its new branch in Munich. It was just open in late September. 21 euros per person per night. It's JUST two mintue walk from the main train station...a convenient location.

Best Hostel
Not located in the prettiest district of Vienna but close to Westbahnhof, Wombats is modern, has friendly staff who were willing to offer advice (e.g. found out when Rapid Vienna were playing and how to get there!!!) and a nice atmosphere. Again, this hostel is more for partygoers, with a bar downstairs but the staff and guests ensure that everyone gets a good nights sleep, even though I was usually with the group crawling in!!!!
Unique Quality: Internet, freindly staff, friendly hostellers, not far from Westbahnhof, very modern, lockers, etc

Best Hostel I've EVER Stayed in.
Clean,New,Convenient,Friendly,Comfortable,Safe,Lively.
If I could fit this hostel in my pack,I'd bring it with me everywhere.
Unique Quality: Immaculatly Maintained,great bar,laundry room,Great staff,great location,great patio,great rooms,great bathrooms,great guests,great prices,great balcony...did someone say great?
I've stayed in over 30 hostels across America,The Caraïbe and Europe and this one is THE best.
It makes me so much less tolerant of other (esp. European) hostels.
I felt a sense of great value....and it was still there after I pinched myself!

cheap and clean hostel
Very nice and accomodating. Located on the west side of town near the Westbahnhof. Everything was immaculately clean and you pay a little extra for it, but it was really nice and in a good area with many shops and stores located. The U3, U6 and U4 stations are all about 1000 feet away.

WOMBATS HOSTEL
As I live here its hard to think of somewhere to recommend! But I came across an advert for a hostel which looked really cool and so I decided to check it out. I would definitely stay here if I was visiting Vienna although it seems a lot of people do too so check its not fully booked! It is open 24 hours and is centrally enough located near Westbahnhof to get around the city.
Beds start at Euro 14 and breakfast from Euro 3
Unique Quality: Its got a bar with patio, laundry facilities, internet access as well as bike and roller blade hire! Look at the internet page for more details and further hostelling in Europe links...
