View of garden by nhcram Only stayed here one night but the owners made us so welcome. The room we had was small and the bathroom was also small but it was all we needed. The owners even make apologies for this in a note left on the table in the room! The breakfast was a fantastic spread of meat, cheeses, cakes fruit and wonderful bread etc etc. The house is just outside the city and is set in beautiful grounds with a swimming pool and chapel in the grounds. This bed and breakfast was recommended by VT member Kentishgirl and I am grateful to her !
There is a swimming pool in the garden and there are a couple of bars about 1/2 mile away. Haus Gregor by nhcram At the top of the hill in Elmau are a few Bed and Breakfast places. We were lucky that the second one we went in we were shown around by a lovely lady and decided to stay! The room was clean albeit a little dark but there was a lovely terrace that overlooked the garden. There was lots of information in the room about the local area and the breakfast was excellent. The lady did not speak any English but we managed very well. Would certainly stay again if in the area.

Family hotels, Austria by hunterV As far as I have seen, this type of hotels is very popular in Austria, especially in the country. These are mainly family run hotels, sometimes only having several rooms, but with all modern conveniences. They are convenient for seminars, group travel, etc. and are usually located in picturesque rural areas outside the big cities.
fresh air, proximity to resorts and nature jewels, family enterprise, excellent local cuisine, friendly atmosphere

Hotel Lebzelter, Zell am See (the yellow building) by pchamlis, 2 more photos The Lebzelter is located at a site that has been a hotel or inn since the 15th century. It has, of course, been redone several times. But basically, if you're looking for clean and comfortable accomodation in a little Tirolean alpine town, right in the HEART of town, the Lebzelter is the place. And, the "cavern bar" below the hotel can really get rowdy (good rowdy) during ski season....especially if a bunch of Norwegian teenagers show up.
Clean, simple rooms and very much representative of Austrian hospitality, or as they'd say....."gemutlichkeit". Courtyard of the Weisses Lamm by Paul2001 The Weisses Lamm is one of two four star hotels in the lovely village of St. Veit an der Glan. As for this star rating it is priced more in the three star range as it is not very expensive. Actually on a whole its feel is very four starlike. Although it has this stunning courtyard as pictured here, the rooms are rather cell-like. Mine was small, had a lumpy mattress and rather dark. It did have a satellite TV with English speaking stations. The hotel occupies a building that dates from the 15th century.
The restaurant here is considered to be quite good (however I must admit that I did not eat here). Oddly enough the hotel staff did not speak any English. I suppose that is because St. Veit is sort of off the beaten path. I did find English a rarity here.
