    • You must try staying at a 'private zimmer.' These are personal homes that rent out a bedroom for the night for real cheap. It is a nice break from Hosteling. Most are one regional train stop up from Salzburgs main station. Walk up the road going up the hill and you will find the little signs on the houses. They are very pretty and the views are gorgeous.

    ENGLISH - Austria has a kind of 'bed and breakfast' all around the country. In small villages, one need just look for green plakards with 'ZIMMER' on it.- PORTUGUÊS - A Áustria tem uma espécie de sistema 'bed and breakfast' por todo o país. Nas aldeias, basta procurar as placas verdes que dizem 'ZIMMER' - FRANÇAIS - L'Autriche possède un système 'bed and breakfast' partout. Dans les petits villages, il suffit de chercher les plaques avec 'ZIMMER' écrit dessus.
    ENGLISH - In 1996, average price for a double room (out of big towns) were about 40 Euros. - PORTUGUÊS -Em 1996, o preço médio por um quarto duplo (fora das grandes cidades)era de 40 Euros. - FRANÇAIS - En 1996, le prix moyen d'une chambre double (hors des grandes villes) était de 40 Euros.

    We stayed in Jochberg, in Hotel Jochbergerhof, nearby the skilifts. It’s a nice and quite hotel with an excellent restaurant and a very friendly staff.
    The price is reasonable for this area.

    • In Vienna, Pertschy Pensionen is beautiful! A little on the expensive side (1380 AS for a double rm), but we were willing to spend the extra bucks for such a lovely place - and a central location. The place is old, with ceramic furnaces in the hallway, old tall doorways, and worn marble stairs. They also have a computer in the lobby free for guests to use - it is in the piano!     • I wish I could remember the name....it is recommended in the Lets Go travel book for Austria.

    The price was moderate for a campground - but the view every morning was well worth it. The food at the campground was surprisingly good - esp. the roast pork and BBQ chicken.

  • Directions: Just east of Salzburg, on a hill overlooking the town and visible from the castle ... ask any bus driver and they can tell you which bus goes there (it is at the terminus of one line).

    The palace in Mitersil not far from Salzburg. It is a perfect place to stay, to study and even to work. The palace is in the mountains. Very beautiful places around.
    you can stay there for the price for students and also in the best apartaments where even princes spended her honey month.

    Der Sonnenhof is a very beautiful hotel/restaurant.
    The food is excellent. It's a family business from the 1800's. The atmosphere is great! I'm sure you'll feel right at home.
    My mom actually worked there for a while. That's why I know it. But it's been a few years since I've last stopped by. No matter where you go though, you'll feel right at home in any of the hotels in Mallnitz. That's just us Austrians! Or, as for me, half Austrians!

    Hotel '3 Gemsen'
    This might sound funny but my granny lived here almost all of her life. She's always had a little room on the top floor right in the middle. The picture kind of reveals it. As a child I used to look through the wooden stakes on the balcony right into the center of Mallnitz. Many, many memories lay here. I guess my granny moved in there before it became a full time hotel and she stayed there on a long term basis ever since. My granny has past a few years ago, but I was estatic when I found this picture! I hope you like it too. This picture really means the world to me personally!
