Pension Löffler, Semmering: Beautiful simplicity in Austria
by saxel177
We stayed here half pension and enjoyed it very much. We needed a room for five, as we have three young children and they arranged for us to have a small apartment on the top floor. The room had fresh wooden floors and comprised of an entrance room with a little kitchenette, two sleeping rooms - the smaller one with two single beds and a desk, and the larger room with a double bed and a bed sofa, that was made up for our youngest, there was also a table and chairs in this room. The bathroom was connected to the larger room and had a shower.
The downside with the room for us is that the skylights did not have any form of blinds or curtain so it did shorten sleep somewhat for our children, but by the end of our holiday the children had got used to lighter rooms.
We were late to the pension due to horrendous rain, and despite the fact that the kitchen was about to close we were warmly received although hurried along. This was no problem for us as we were all very hungry.
we had a choice of liver dumpling or noodle soup for starters and then for main course it was pork with pasta and sauce or stuffed paprika, and cheesecake to finish off with. The soup and the dessert were good. The main course was average, but tasty, but there again it was very beige - pasta, pork and creamy sauce!!
We slept well. The room was quiet and of a high standard.
Breakfast was great - and for my children one of the highlights of the holiday (as we self catered the rest of the holiday) our table was decked out with cups, saucers and orange juice. There were baskets filled with little packages of nutella, patés, soft cheeses and jams. A plate of hams, sausage and cheese came out aswell as a basket of breadrolls (semmel) and slices of brown bread. The children got to drink creamy hot chocolate and we parents drank delicious coffee (REALLY good coffee). A good start to the day.
A small place with big ideas. They want an organic basis and try to provide local food. The room was big, clean and had beautiful wooden floors. It has a simple elegance without the fuss of it being a luxury hotel. You feel indulged at the same time as you feel at home.
