I spent 2 nights at Hotel Minsk on a business trip in June, 2007. The Hotel was as you would expect it to be for this price and for 4 stars, but would be probably way too expensive for local people (the parking lot had cars from EU, Russia, and Ukraine mostly). The breakfast is nice as well, try the grilled mushrooms, they are very-very good! :)
There are two things from earlier posts about this hotel on VT, one of them proved to be true, while the other one is probably out-dated by now:
I was there in the summer, so the big Air Conditioning system was working in the yard, which was very loud (I only heard it in the parking lot, not in my room). So I can only approve the previous suggestion about: "Ask for a room on the street side!" I did so at registration and didn't hear anything from the AC, and also overlooked the Lenin Square which was a unique panorama with a fair view. You can see the view from my room among the photos.
About the beauty package: they don't give those "push and roll" packaged shower gels and shampoos anymore, they have small plastic bottles instead. The soap also has a nice holder, so I had no problem with this package. (see photo also)
The TV: well, it's a small one, with many channels, but mind that even EuroNews is in Russian. I found CNN and BBC in English, but I think they are changing their channel offering every quite often.
Unique Quality: Location is perfect, and as this is the only 4 star hotel in Minsk (and in whole Belorus actually) these two facts guarantee the uniqueness in themselves.
The rooms are nice, nothing really special, but on the level of standard that you would expect anywhere else around Europe I think. There lots of additional services availalbe at the ground floor and the bar serves good beer until around 2-3 am.
I didn't stay in this hotel since it the only 4 star hotel , i guess in Belarus, it should be perfect.i just can say that the location is perfect it the center of the city and close to everything what u would need.
What a hotel is also about is your room. In a country where the average monthy income is between USD200 and 400, the Minsk's well over USD100 a night rate just doesn't measure up to 4-star standards, no matter where you are in the world. A small room with a drab interior, guests should expect a 4-star hotel to provide more in the way of bathroom goodies than the pat-of-butter sized soap (this is not an exaggeration) and the complimentary-sized (grip between teeth and bite to open) shampoo and shower gel packets. The 12" TV has several Russian channels but SkyNews is the sole English language feed. Several lower-priced hotels in the city would be a better bargain. If you do stay at the Minsk - make sure you ask for a room on the street side of the hotel - otherwise you'll be treated to an interior parking lot view, accompanied by the hotel's very large and noisy building air conditioning unit.
Unique Quality: Hotel Minsk deserves it's self-imposed 4-star rating if the traveler requires the advertised amenities, salons, jacuzzi, sauna, bar and restaurant in Belarus. The hotel's location is superb for city walking, a short distance from the Metro, with shops and city sights located nearby.
This hotel has just been renovated , and I must say that it's the best one in the city. Hotel Minsk is suberbly located, just a 2-minute walk from Independance Square, right inthe heart of the city. If you have money to spend, this is defenetly the place you would want to be. The hotel has 258 rooms all superbly fitted with air-conditioning, satellite TV, direct dial international telephone, radio and hairdryer.
Unique Quality: - three additional bars
- a banquetting hall
- a conference hall
- a health club
- sauna
- massage
- laundry service
- beauty parlour
- business centre
- casino
- souvenir shop
- secure parking
- currency exchange
This is the only 4* hotel in Minsk and in the country.
It seems like it is always empty as for its high price. At the breakfest I counted about 30 names in the list of guests, though hotel has about 260 rooms.

If you have a friend in Belarus who can organise a flat for you then try it! There is a distinct lack of any tourist accomodation outside of the big cities, so this may be your only option!
Most Belarussians welcome the chance to give up their home for a week or so in exchange for some good old US Dollars. We paid around $100/week for ours which is about the same price as a large room for 1 night in a Minsk Hotel! The best part about staying in a flat is you will live amongst the local population. Sure, they will all look at you as if you have arrived from Mars, but soon they will start to try to talk to you or smile at you. If you can learn to say good morning in Russian, that will help you!
Shopping for food is another experience especially when you only have about 6 words of Russian! This is not for the unadventurous, but then if you have no sense of adventure what are you doing in Belarus!
I was in Minsk for a week in Crown plaza hotel. 5-star hotel, located in the centre of city.
It has a nice nightclub with a lot of girls.
I'm planning on being in Minsk in late August, and am currently trying to sort my Visa information out.
I understand that I have to pre-book my hotel to get an invitation/voucher.
Any advice on a place to stay that is fairly close to the attractions but not too expensive (I am not planning on spending too much time in the room)?
Thanks in Advance,
Jim
As for hotel, there is not so much options in Minsk. Hotel "Minsk" - 4* - rather expensive, but real 4*. Other are 3* and lower. See

for more.
I stayed at the Hotel Belarus which is quite centrally located near the "troitsky suburb" a rebuilt old town. The hotel has about 20 floors. I stayed in a business class room and it was nice and modern. The only thing I didnt like about it, was that the normal taxis, the ones with meters, dont wait in front like at other hotels. Instead, you have private taxis and you must negotiate. They tend to be a bit more expensive.
I also stayed once at the Orbita and I didnt like the sleepy area that it is in.
The Juravinka is also quite nice. It located fairly centrally but is a bit more expensive. (around $100+ per night)
The nicest is the Minsk. Advertised prices are around $150 per night. I saw the rooms, didnt stay there, but had a tour. VERY nice.
JIm,
Just got back from Minsk - Stayed in the Planetta - very nice hotel. Attractions? which are you referring?

What was the price of that "business class"? For next business trip I was offered to stay in Hotel "Belarus" for $60. I am afraid it is not what you call "business class", and I insist to change it for "Minsk" though it is twice more expensive.
