Moon Hotel: Great Location

by emilie1972

Based on some other reviews, I thought it would be best to book directly with the hotel instead of a "discount" travel site (Specifically to Brussels hotels, I had read comments from people paying a 3rd party and then the hotel denying their reservations). When I didn't hear back from the Moon Hotel in a day, I sent a reservation request through booking.com, with a note that I had also tried to book through the hotel. I received an email from the hotel explaining internet issues prevented an earlier response. The rate quoted by the hotel was cheaper than anywhere else, so I would definitely recommend contacting hotels before booking a room through an on-line reservation site. (We saved about 25 euros for our 3 night stay - not much, but it all adds up in the end:) Cost was about 80 euros per night)

The front desk staff was friendly enough and watched our bags until we could check in, but I can't say they went out of their way to make us feel welcome when we went in/out during our stay (this may be a cultural thing). We didn't get the breakfast from the hotel, so can't speak to the food. Housekeeping was good.

The shower, while small, offered what we did not expect - water pressure, so we were happy with that.

We didn't get a funky room shown in some pictures (zebra bed, for example). We had a top floor, double bed, overlooking Place Agora. Small but functional. We enjoyed the beer in Brussels a little too much the first two nights causing very quick and deep sleep, and it wasn't until the 3rd night that I realized how thin the walls really are. For that reason, as well as some noise from the street, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to light sleepers. But if you want a good, quality, reasonably priced hotel in a great location, Moon Hotel is perfect.

Hotel Lucca: Perfectly Located

by DueSer

This is a pleasant place located close to all the action in old town Bruges, just a couple minutes' walk from the Markt. The hotel has a welcoming lobby, a very nice breakfast served downstairs, and the rooms have private bathrooms. I thought my room was very comfortable. My only complaint was that the man who was working the front desk when I checked in attempt to "correct" me on the pronunciation of my own name, which made me a little mad but I didn't see him for the rest of my stay there so that pleased me. Everyone else was very nice.

I stayed here in April of 2006 and everything was fine then but when I went to link their website to this tip, the website is no longer up so I fear what may have happened to this hotel.

Hotel Rubenshof: Antwerp's Art Nouveau Gem

by DueSer

This place is a VERY long walk from the train station so take the tram (I'm a fast walker and it took me 20 minutes or so to get there) but it's worth the effort because this place is delightful. The rooms have everything you would need - cleanliness, tv, private bathrooms, etc - with absolutely no frills whatsoever. All the frills are in the common rooms - sitting room, lobby, and dining room - and are worth the price of admission, as they say.

The location of the hotel - besides the distance from the train station - is excellent. The museums are very close by and there are some other nice buildings in the area. It's in a fairly safe neighborhood. I walked back to the train station in the dark and did not feel uncomfortable at any time.

I wouldn't really call it a hotel, though. From my experience, if this hotel was in Germany, for example, it would be a pension, I think. Breakfast is included but I can't speak for the quality of that because I had an early train to catch and had to check out before breakfast was served:-(

This place is an Art Nouveau masterpiece. There are several stained glass windows and wood carved details in the walls as well as a mural on the ceiling, a beautiful fireplace, and many other wonderful details.

Cascade Hotel: Nice Brussels Spot

by DueSer

My arrival at the hotel was rather serendipitous (see below) but I enjoyed my stay very much. The lobby was welcoming and had a view of a garden eating area. The elevator was only operational if you first inserted your room key, so I felt very safe. My room was comfortable and clean. The staff was very nice. I don't normally splurge on a hotel of this calibre but I was extremely grateful for an opportunity to stay here. It helped make my visit to Bruxelles wonderful.

One unique thing about the hotel is its location near the Marolles neighborhood of Bruxelles - you can still hear an old dialect called Brusselier spoken here.

The most unique thing, though, is how I came to be a guest at the hotel. I had my reservation at a B&B just down the street but when I arrived the owner told me that a guest she thought was checking out that morning was actually staying for another couple of days and every other room of hers was filled. So she walked with me down to the Cascade. She's friends with the people who work there and they very graciously agreed to take me in and charge me the rate I was going to pay at the B&B (which was almost $100 less than at the Cascade)! I was impressed and grateful.

NH Brugge: A very nice hotel

by Besties

We stayed here for three nights during a city break to Brugges. We have no complaints about the hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were well presented and spacious enough for us. We only ate there for breakfast but that was excellent; the hotel offers both a cooked and continental buffet style breakfast. There was an indoor pool and a small gym which we didn't use but they looked pretty good.

Location-wise it's very close (walking distance) to the centre although we opted for a taxi to get to and from the station, which is also not far but the route didn't look too pedestrian-friendly (especially with luggage).

Hotel Ibis: Ghent's Little 'Surprise'

by Pantalones

The Hotel was typical for an Ibis. You can find them all over Europe. Strictly moderate budget. Not fancy but clean, friendly and reliable.

WATCH OUT when booking the IBIS in Ghent. There are two of them and the one located in the heart of the city is VERY hard to get to by car!!!

many: Brussels best B&B

by Pedralho

The first hotel where I stayed was something out of the surreal. As I walked in, there was a strong smell of Indian cuisine (the employees were cooking). I paid and got into the lift in direction to my room. The lift was 1m wide and .5m deep, so I climbed the stairs, because I thought there was a probability I'd get in rags to my room. As I entered the room, there was a strong smell of sewage, I opened the window. The bedboard had lots of female names, I guess written by their customers. The tv was laying on a table, which made a 45º with the floor. I didn't dare to turn it on.
But don't be put off by this, the hotels where I stayed were good for the price: silent, clean, no smells, no damaged furniture.

I rent rooms with the lowest price possible (= longer stay), typically 35-50EUR, for a single with a loo and and a shower.

Hotel Mercure, Mons

by psdeiwert

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks during our PCS back to the US. The hotel Mercure is located outside of Mons in a town called Maisieres. It was very convenient for us to stay there because it is located right next to the international NATO base and they allow pets in the rooms. The rooms are very spacious with huge marble tiled bathrooms! The hotel restaurant is good but the portions are very expensive and small. We ate at the local restaurants or at the hotel bistro.

Luxurious rooms and huge bathrooms. Hotel allows pets.

Hotel Mozart: Moroccan comfort

by musbars

Located right in the center of the Brusselle. Very "antiquy" and very colorful. If you stay on the top floor you can see the tops of the roofs and the pick of the main attraction in Brussele.
