Travel Tips for La Hulpe

Have a walk through the Zoniën Forest

by cadzand

Many different large and small shady pathways lead you into the Zoniën Forest.
A good starting point is the "Bosmuseum" or Forest Museum along the Groenendael Cross and Duboislaan 6 in Hoeilaart, which has its own Arboretum.
There are many different walks, all marked in different colours.
Some lead you along the ponds, some along the ancient racecourse, even from Hoeilaart to La Hulpe, St. Genesius Rode, Watermaal-Bosvoorde, etc.

Classy suburbia

by Sjalen

La Hulpe is a lakeside community outside Brussels which is excellent for a daytrip on a sunny day when you can have a picnic in the local castle grounds or walk in the vast forests full of other wanderers and riders.

La Hulpe

by myriam_c

La Hulpe is a quiet village in the Brabant Wallon region of Belgium.

We didn't really visit the village but made a walk in the lovely Parc Solvay instead to look at the Château de la Hulpe and its beautiful gardens.

La Hulpe

by cadzand

A neighbour to Waterloo and another true suburb of Brussels is La Hulpe, a picturesque little town, of 7000 inhabitants bordering on the For?t de Soignes, which has managed to retain a pleasant rural air.

In the tiny adjoining hamlet of Gaillemarde the back roads are full of small well kept rural houses and barns with flowers.

Nearby, the Solvay Ch?teau stands gloriously out on a hill in the heart of a magnificent 220 ha park of vast lawns, great spruces, azaleas and rhododendrons, a genuine botanical garden which is open all year round.

The Ch?teau itself, used for receptions and exhibitions, is named for the last private owners the Solvay family of industrialists who presented the estate to the Government.

Several films have been made in this lovely decor so as Le Ma?tre de Musique from G?rard Corbiau with the famous baryton Jos? Van Dam.

Autumn views

by cadzand

Well, if I said Autumn pictures, it are almost Winter pictures. This year, all trees have decided not to part from their leaves though :)) Normally in early November most of the leaves have fallen down. These are the very special belgian "Indian summer" pictures. Enjoy !
