Best French Fries (Belgium Fries :) ) in Liege !

Hello,

i will be in Liege next saturday and i wanna eat the best fries in Liege :)
Where can i find them ?

Dear Markus,

Please note that we have no French fries (does not exist, not even in France) in Belgium, we have only FRITES.
If you look on VT at Belgium "Local Customs" you will find some tips about the authentic Belgian FRITES.

Any Belgian restaurant or better a friterie (shop selling only frites) in Liège should be able to serve you decent frites.
(I wrote Belgian restaurant because a Chinese restaurant is perhaps not the best place for good frites, even in Belgium).

Look for 'friture' you will find one in mostly every street, it can be an open window or a wagon at the streetcorner. Dont eat it with ketchup but with mayonaise and buy it as takeway food in a paper bag. That is 'the best Belgian Frit' you will ever taste. I hope you will enjoy it.

The Stairs

Liege is in a river valley with the western bank considerably higher than river valley. Very pretty, but to transit from the heights to the river you have the stairs. This set had over four hundred steps. Of course I had to go up the stairs to see if there was a good vantage for pictures. About three quarters of the way up, I realized that this was really quite high and with no hand rails, if I slipped, there was nothing to slow me down until I reached the bottom. I kept going to the top and then turned and retraced my steps much more cautiously. I wasn’t alone on the stairs; people live here with the doors to their houses leading directly off the steps. Nice view but quite the walk everyday.

Liège Tip

As it is a nature reserve you can't go in the moor and just walk.

You have to follow these narrow, wooden paths. That way you can walk for hours in the moor. But remember, you are not allowed to leave them. You are still walking in a nature reserve.
And besides of that, it can be really swampy.

August Celebrations

Every 15 August is in the sign of big celebrations in Outremeuse. The streets are packed with people playing, dancing and singing. There are several stages all over this part of the city and all you have to do is to join in.

To the east, near the city of Liege, Tongeren has the honour (along with Tournai) of being Belgium's oldest town. Settled in 15 BC as a base for Roman troops, the town has an important collection of Gallo-Roman remains, and is surrounded by Roman and medieval walls.

The Saint Bartholomew Church

This church was built by the successor of Bishop Notger
The choir dates from the 11th century, the transepts and the nave are from the 12th century.
The Western façade in typical Mosan style (the style from the cities situated alongside the river Meuse) was constructed at the end of the 12th century.
The church is absolutely worth a visit
