Hôtel Husa de la Couronne

This hotel has a funny name but an unbeatable location, not only right in front of the new railroad station but directly across from the new Bike Point in the station building.

I asked for and got a quiet room, and everything was clean and orderly so I was quite satisfied.

There was a different price each night, but they averaged out to 65.17 Euros per night, which is not exorbitant. Breakfast was not included and was listed as costing 15 Euros per person, which is much more than I am willing to pay, but when I got there it turned out there was also something called an “Express Breakfast” for six Euros, meaning you could only go to the buffet once and not go back for seconds.

Second photo: Here you can see how close the hotel is to the station, and also that the immediate neighborhood is an unattractive jumble of accidental architecture.

Third photo: When I rented my bicycle for three days at the Bike Point I asked if it would be safe to leave the bike overnight in the bicycle storage room at the station (locked of course) and they said the storage room was not guarded so it might be a better idea to ask at the hotel if I could leave it there. I asked at reception and they said I could simply take the bike up to my room, as long as it wasn’t full of mud. I said the bike was wet but not muddy, so I took it up (in the larger of the two elevators) and kept it in my room for two of the three nights. On the third night to save time I decided to leave it in the storage room in the station after all, which was also fine.

Husa Couronne

The room was quite large and comfortable. Furniture was new and the bath was nice.

There is free internet connection: wifi in common areas and wired in the rooms.

The hotel is in front of the train station, which is very comfortable if you travel by train. There is a bus stop nearby where you can take a bus to the city center, but you can also walk about half an hour.

We paid 157 € for two nights (breakfast was not included). The price is quite good for such a hotel, because it is not in the city center.

traveling from liege to malmedy

by marjuski

i would like to know what is the easiest way to get from the town of liege to malmedy? we do not want to rent a car and i am not able to find a way through the internet?

Re: traveling from liege to malmedy

There are no trains to Malmedy itself. The nearest station is at Trois-Ponts, Verviers is a little further away.

You can go to either from Liege by train and then get a bus (latter takes about 20 minutes).

Train times, details and fares in English here:

http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/

Journey to Trois-Ponts takes just under an hour, no changes. Standard one-way fare is 7.70 euro.

Bus 395 goes from Verviers to Malmedy, bus 45a from Trois-Ponts:

Thank you, that is helpful. I'm still wondering if you could take a bus from Liege itself which goes to Malmedy. I'll try and check the bus timetable a bit more... Thank you

The site I gave lists no direct bus.

It gives the train + bus option I suggested.

Some locals seem to be celebrating Christmas all year round. Why else would Santa Claus in a sledge with reindeer ride on top of one of the houses at the Maas?

Very mysterious - foto coming soon.

St Pholien

by viddra

A few steps from the main stage, another church caught our attention.

The church is at No. 9, place St-Pholien. It was built in 1917, according to the plans of Edmond Jamar. Pierre Brouwers decorated the interior.

Spend an hour on the water in the Sarcelle IV, enjoying views of Liege from the river Meuse. It's a relaxing way to rest your feet and get to know the city from a new angle.

These tours with commentary depart from outside the Aquarium (buy a combined ticket for the best value).
