A walk to the ruins of the 13th century castle

Just outside the centre, leading up the hill, there is a path that will take you to the remainings of an old Middle aged castle.
From that point you have a wonderful outlook on the river Semois and the surrounding area.
Nearby, huged by the meander of the river lies a huge grassland that is used by the boyscouts as a regular camping place for Summer holidays.

This is the touristic centre of the village.
Here you find restaurants, hotels, pubs.
In front of you, in cottage style, you can notice the La Renaissance Hotel, mentionned in one of the accomodation tips It is small, it is beautiful, and all seasons have their charm!

Peaceful little village!
Only during Summerdays this place is turned into a real tourist attraction.
But if you go outside the season, it is just marvelous!

On the square of the little village you will find an information map that pictures all the great hiking paths in the area. Still I would recomend you to get yourself a detailed card.
The woods are "big" accordingly to Belgian standards.
Herbeumont is bordering the river Semois, a river loved by canoers.

Early morning, the temperature of the river is warmer then the temperature of the air.
It is time to put the fire on again.
We were lucky as our friends are regular campers and in no time we will have a terrific campfire again!

this is already morning again!!!
it is a freezing November morning and there is ice on the cover of the tent and on the cars.
A good fire and some hot coffee might warm us up.
I will have frozen feet till it is almost noon!

As the owners actually are running a farm as well, don't be suprised you will get some company of the local farm chickens!
They just know when you are about to go eating and they love to join `-)
