From Brussels to Dinant
by vasilyec
Hi, need help from both locals and tourists: I'd like to go to Dinant from Brussels while in Belgium. I've checked Belgium trains website, and it shows transit time 1h42min, no change of trains (from Brussels Nord Station), but at the end it shows one train and one person walking (?!!) What is that? Does it mean I need to walk a lot from the train station to the city centre? Could please somebody explain? Thanks!!

Did you select DINANT Gare [T] as your destination?
SNCB (train):[B] TEC (bus):[T]
If you click on details you will see it takes 8 min to walk from train station to bus station.
Train station is in the city centre.

Yes, Dinant Gare. Thank you so much! I thought it would take me hours :)
Otherwise why put a sign of a walking man? Hm-m... Thanks again, now I can put Dinant on my plan for sure!

DINANT Gare [T] = TEC bus station
DINANT [B] = SNCB train station

If you have an address in Dinant you may find it in the drop down menu and see how long time it takes to walk there. You can even get a map of the route you have to walk.

Thanks a lot for your help! I don't have an address in Dinant, just wanted to go around the town - the pictures are too nice to miss it! We'll do a day trip from Brussels. Thanks again and have a nice weekend! C.
Travel Tips for Dinant
The history of Dinant
by DanielF
Due to its strategic location on the Meuse Valley, Dinant has had a tormented history of sieges, sackages, pillages, and destruction. The entire city has been destroyed and rebuilt several times and there are therefore not many historical buildings left. But the beauty of Dinant is in its wonderful location in the narrow flatland between the river and the cliffs.
Of course, not everything has been tragic in the history of Dinant. This is also the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. Today, one of the town's main streets, where his birthplace is located, parallel to the river, is named in his honour.
Couque
by freya_heaven
We walked past this bakers with all these gorgeous looking Couque (biscuits) in the window. All cleverly designed in the shapes of animals, flower baskets, houses etc.
The history of these biscuits is centuries old, the people of Dinant did not get on with their neighbours in Bouvignes, the next village. So whenever another dispute erupted they would throw stale bread & cakes at the people of Bouvignes. They then set about actually making harder biscuits to inflict more pain, this tradition has carried on to today, (making them not throwing them!)
Couques de Dinant
by Mahieu
The "Couques de Dinant" are as famous in Dinant as These cookies are made of flour, sugar and honey. They taste good, but be careful when you eat them, they are very very hard! Actually, I think they should come with a warning, in order not to break your teeth on them ;-)
As you can see in the picture, they come in all shapes and sizes.
Adolphe Sax
by myriam_c
This is not a general tip but there is no other category to give this information.
Adolphe Sax is the inventor of the saxophone and he was born in Dinant in 1814. I found his statue in the shopping street in front of a ... saxophone shop!
Our Lady's church
by MATIM
The church is build in 934. In 1228 there was tragical damage at the church cause by a move of a rock above the church, 36 people where killed.
The church is rebuild after the damage in mesh gothic style.
Don't forget to have a look at the font build in 1472.
At the church you can find the largest glass window from Europe, showing scenes from the bible.
Open every day from 10.00 till 18.00
