'Hotel Atlanta' is from my point of vieuw a
construction crime. I often wonder what kind of
building stood there before they build this ugly
unpersonal monster.
Anyway , let's talk about the hotel.
'Location'- a great location. If you arrive
by train in the central station you are only five
steps away from your hotel. The 'koningin
astridplein' is a wharf now for some years
but should be finished 2005. Your in Belgium ,
let's say december. :-)
'restaurant' - cross the square and you
got a wide choise of cheap and mid priced
restaurant. You wont find anything posh here.
'Shopping' - your steps away from
the most visited shopping street in Belgium ,
walk down the 'de keyserlei'. Even there you
can find some supermarkets already.
'Atractions'- the zoo is your neighbour ,
the magnificient building is the diamond museum ,
aquatopia is so close you can
almost smell the fish. ( joking , joking)
'Public transport' - the astridplein is
a cross point for the underground , trams , busses...
you can find the tourist office at number 26
to get the correct information.
'going out' - the cinema is very near this
square. Your in the station neighbourhood , so
adult entertainment isn't that far. No prostitution
anymore but a strip club , a blue movies ,
some sex shops...
Also the kiningin Elisabethzaal is here ,
classical music , the famous contest for piano ,
singing , violin. Gaystraat is like 100
step from this hotel. The glory years are over
but still you can find some amience.
Last but not least , the little piece of street
we call 'chinatown' also start at the
corner of this square.
I think the location is quit good , excellent.
It is not the cheapest hotel in Antwerp ,
but were you looking for cheap?
The building has no character.... and
for that price there are other options as well.
Still , staying on the Astridplein is easy.
If your short in time , only staying one night
this is an excellent choice.
