A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ANTWERP
by LoriPori
The city of ANTWERP , a great city in Belgium, is located on the Scheldt River, close to the North Sea. Besides being the most important center of business in Belgium, Antwerp is also famous for its cathedral and art treasrures. The great Cathedral of Our Lady is one of the largest in Europe and has a spire 400 feet high. Inside the cathedral are some of the great paintings of such famous artists as Rubens and Van Dyck.
Diamond-cutting is one of Antwerp's biggest businesses. Here, rough diamonds are cut and polished by skilled diamond-cutters until they become the brilliant shining stones that we see in jewellery stores.
My memories are vague, but...

My memories are vague, but they include flowers everywhere and picturesque medieval cityscapes. Also--see Ghent, where there's a medieval count's castle with a torture museum (if you have sons, they will thank you for the gross-out factor).

Belgian Chocolates I can't write enough
tips about this.
GUYLIAN a belgian chocolate producer
from Sint-Niklaas opened a flagship store in
Antwerp. Of course , where else.
Guylian is best known for its chocolate sea
delights...shipped by tons out of Brussels
national airport and the filling is made of a
special ancient recipe.
This place with stylish black and white
interior serves their own coffee blends...
made to go along with their chocolates.
Also available are fresh fruit with a chocolate
dipping sauce...( recipe by Michelen-chef
Peter Goossens - Hof van Kleve)
The location 'de Komedieplaats'
in front of the bourlatheater is just fantastic.
In the summer you can sit outside. The area
to go for exclusive shopping.. Feel rich and
famous , drink a coffee at this place. Do I need to explain more?

For the best view over the city, you have to cross the river. Go to the St Anna pedestrian tunnel and walk to the other side. From there you can have a great view over Antwerp. You'll see the Cathedral, The Boerentoren and many other buildings.
Building, yes! But with a marine twist...

Strolling along the quays, you wouldn't miss those buildings... modern style and inspired by the sailing activity.. Not only in the design of the buildings but also in the use of materials (wood, wood timbers).
I value wood in buildings. It gives a sophisticated touch but also warmth even on futuristic or industrial design.. Diverse styles along the quays... Not only those that are inspired by the sailing world... Also some other dainty red-brick buildings.
