We chose this hotel for a night for our Mini-meet with JohnGayton as it is really close to conveyor belt sushi place we wanted to go to ....and exceptionally close to the central station and the Starbucks which we arranged to meet at.
This hotel is perfectly well placed for visiting all of Antewerp from and only a hundred yards from the Zoo and the Aquatopia entrances.
Our room was on a smart deal from Booking .com and If I am brutally honest was not even worth that much money...we got a room at the back with a shockingly bad view of the rear of other buildings and discarded cigarette butts and a dead pidgeon...but I suppose someone has to be at the back....
The room was clean enough although there were many dirty scuff marks on the walls and the floor made of cheap laminate had been cleaned with inappropriate cleaner and was VERY faded and scratched up.the shower room was clean and well done though.
The room was equipped with a nespresso machine and you get 4 pods for free and more are available for 50 cents each at reception...we didnt bother because we take our own teabags wherever we go and luckily for us there was also a small kettkle in the room as I forgot to check before hand...the wardrobe and safe were good too
I was astounded and a bit annoyed to be asked for my credit card at reception upon checking in because I had paid in advance in full so I felt quite smug to say I dont have one...but then they insited on a 25 euro cash deposit againt the mini bar and phone calls ect.,,,well thats all well and good I suppose but when we got to the room we discovered that the fridge was entirely EMPTY!!! (see foto) ...and there was no retraction of the deposit or an apology or an offer to re-stock it even when I called down to to query this... I did get my deposit back the next morning at check out....but still !
Overall given the choice we will choose another hotel next time.....
Directions: Its on the main square next to the Central station at the back
Located near Central Station in Astridplein this hotel is not a particularly attractive building.
It's modern, manicured and has no character. In other words it's just how I like it. To me a hotel with character means that your legs stick out of the bathroom door and the floorboards creak. Not here.
I had a standard room which had plenty of space and a view, which I asked for. The double glazing kept out any outside noise and the air conditioning was very efficient - which it needed to be with the temperature up in the 30's outside.
My room also included a Nespresso coffee machine which suited me perfectly as did the free wi-fi and in room safe. All very easy to use. A good sign was that I never needed to contact Reception the whole time I was here because everything was as it should be.
There was even a Fitness Suite here that I didn't use . The facilities at the sister hotel, the Radisson Blu, across the square are also available to guests. I didn't use any of them so I don't know what the score is there. I do know you get a healthy discount if you use the restaurant.
Breakfast wasn't included in the price but I wasn't bothered about that either because I found a bite to eat elsewhere.
At £65 for the room per night I couldn't have asked for more especially as they let me in early and allowed me to stay later. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Directions: Near Central Station and The Zoo
We got a really good deal with Eurostar which included a stay at the Park Inn. The rooms are large, bright and airy with all the mod cons you could want. Bathroom was a really good size with good quality toileteries too. Would definitely stay here again when I am next in Antwerp.
Unique Quality: The best thing about the hotel is the perfect location in front of the Central Station. Our room was at the back so there was no noise.
Directions: By Central station. Perfect location
'Hotel Atlanta' is from my point of vieuw a
construction crime. I often wonder what kind of
building stood there before they build this ugly
Anyway , let's talk about the hotel.
'Location'- a great location. If you arrive
by train in the central station you are only five
steps away from your hotel. The 'koningin
astridplein' is a wharf now for some years
but should be finished 2005. Your in Belgium ,
let's say december. :-)
'restaurant' - cross the square and you
got a wide choise of cheap and mid priced
restaurant. You wont find anything posh here.
'Shopping' - your steps away from
the most visited shopping street in Belgium ,
walk down the 'de keyserlei'. Even there you
can find some supermarkets already.
'Atractions'- the zoo is your neighbour ,
the magnificient building is the diamond museum ,
aquatopia is so close you can
almost smell the fish. ( joking , joking)
'Public transport' - the astridplein is
a cross point for the underground , trams , busses...
you can find the tourist office at number 26
to get the correct information.
'going out' - the cinema is very near this
square. Your in the station neighbourhood , so
adult entertainment isn't that far. No prostitution
anymore but a strip club , a blue movies ,
some sex shops...
Also the kiningin Elisabethzaal is here ,
classical music , the famous contest for piano ,
singing , violin. Gaystraat is like 100
step from this hotel. The glory years are over
but still you can find some amience.
Last but not least , the little piece of street
we call 'chinatown' also start at the
corner of this square.
I think the location is quit good , excellent.
It is not the cheapest hotel in Antwerp ,
but were you looking for cheap?
The building has no character.... and
for that price there are other options as well.
Still , staying on the Astridplein is easy.
If your short in time , only staying one night
this is an excellent choice.
