Small hotel outside city center

The Rubenshof was easy to locate by car with the hotel provided map, right off the ring road. There was plenty of street parking available, free between 6 pm and 9 am. It was a little far from the city center, I'd estimate 15-20 minutes on foot. The guidebook says to take tram 12 or 24 to Brederodestraat.

This small 22 room hotel, formerly the residence of a Belgian cardinal, has a beautiful interior- stained glass windows, wood trim, painted ceilings and chandeliers. We had one of the 14 double rooms with private bath for 69E, the other 8 are cheaper rooms with a shared bath.

Unique Quality: The rooms are a bit plainer than the common areas but our large room was nicely decorated. The bathroom could have used some work, a bit worn with a hand held shower instead of overhead and a few steps leading down into it, a hazard when you are staying in unfamiliar surroundings.

The rate included breakfast-eggs, rolls, tea, coffee, juice and salami. The breakfast room was one of the nicest in the hotel with beautiful art noveau stained glass windows and wood trim.

Cute Hotel

If my memory serves me correct, Hotel Rubenshof was once a mansion now turned hotel. The sitting area, reception area and cafe area was nicely decorated with paintings on the walls and ceilings. It gave that late 1800's feel. The staff was very friendly and accomadating. Especially when my host realize I was an American with a "huge" suitcase. He preceded to lecture me about "huge" suitcases in Europe. I tried to explain to him that I was actually travelling for a month and this was the ending of my trip. But of course he wouldn't hear it and insisted that I travel lighter next time. Funny, usually I do but I didn't this time. We had a real good laugh with that. Anyways, he tried his best to switch my room to the first floor from the thirdas the hotel does not have an elevator. No such luck, but he did assist with carrying my luggage.

Unique Quality: The amenities were quite basic. Included in the price was breakfast(bread, tea/coffee, boiled egg or salami)What I liked about the hotel was that it's within walking distance to museums and the center.

A: "I fully agree with above reply. You must feel the atmosphere of Antwerp. The Groenplaats and the Grote Markt are the two squares you should see. PJ"
