The main building of the Grote Markt ensemble is Stadhuis (City Hall). The city hall was founded in XIV century by comprising of Cloth Hall, Great Council’s Palace and Belfry. The walls of the city hall is rich decorated, especially I liked the wall faced to Befferstraat.
The complex was built in XV-XVI century. It is situated near of Grote Markt and well-seen from surroundings cause of 97 meters high tower. The tower has an ensemble of 100 bells around. The interesting thing was the bell player tried to perform Moon Sonata of van Beethoven.
The town hall is a beautiful building on the market square consisting of three different buildings. On the left is the Palace of the High Court. Although it looks old it was not finished until 1910. In the middle is the 14th century unfinished belfry, and on the right is the cloth hall dating from the 14th century.
The inside of the town hall is worthwhile too. You can, however, only visit the interior with an official guide.
Basilica of Our Lady of Hanswijk is situated in the Eastern part of the city in Hanswijkstraat. Wonder-working statue of Virgin Mary is kept in the church. The church was built in XVII century by Faydgerbe. The organ is from those times too.
The Market Square is a big square and has an underground parking. Here you will find the town hall, the St. Rumbold's cathedral and many typical Flemish houses. There are some tavernes where you can have a drink outside. The monument on the square is called Op-sinjnoorke
