The most beautiful B&B in Belgium
Ann, the owner (and accomplished interior designer) is righly proud of Lonely Planet's description of her home as "the most beautiful bed and breakfast in Belgium". And I have to say, I don't think there are many bed and breakfast places in the WORLD where you get a chandelier in the bathroom!
There are just two rooms, and we had the upper on on the secon floor. Which is in fact the entire second floor. Large bedroom with king size bed covered in comfy pillows, and the bathroom .. which is just something else! Not only the chandelier but also twin sinks, an antique clawfoot bath and a wall mural.
There's no breakfast room, instead Ann brings up a huge tray and leaves it outside your room. So you can slip on the fluffy bathrobes (hanging up in the bathroom cupboard) and sit down at your own little table in the bedroom for boiled egg, ham and cheese, yoghurt and pastries.
The only down side is that the location is a good 15 minute walk from the centre, along a rather dingy stretch of river. It is however a reasonable walk to the station, so this is a great place to stay if you want a base to explore Bruges and Antwerp as well.
Cost? 100 -120 euros per night for the room, including breakfast.
Unique Quality: On New Years Day our breakfast tray included a half bottle of champagne and a New Years card - lovely!

Q: Arriving Gent Sint Pieters with medium suitcase "Will we be able to get on a Tram to go to the City Centre with a medium sized suitcase? or should we get a taxi to the hotel -..."
A: "You shouldn't have any problem with the tram. They run regularly and are rarely full except at peak times. Gent taxis are expensive."
