It was a good experience

Well, I just came from Ghent and stayed for 2 nights in Ghent River hotel and it was nice. Room was not very big, but nice decorated and quiet (number 126). And what was especially nice, it was with the view on the river! So you can sleep with your window open and listen to the river! So good for someone who came from 14 mln populated city. Then bathroom was nice too, it had a shower with turkish bath and nice choice of soups with olive oil and the rest. They also have sauna and fitness room but I didn;t try this. Breakfast was ok. Hotel is right in the center and you can use tram to come to it. I will really recommend this hotel.

More about Ghent River Hotel

Ghent has a lot of good accomodations

by Luchonda about Accor group hotels....

Ghent has a lot of accomodations to offer. From B&F, youth hotels, tourist hotels up to business four star hotels.
Has i live here in Ghent i have no real experiences on this but i always heard from friends and invited VT members that three hotels are very popular due to their location and acceptable prices
- Sofitel : near the city hall
- Ibis : next to the Cathedral
- Novotel : next to E.Braun square
The "Ghent River Hotel" and "Marriot Hotel" are rather exclusive accomodations.

Visit the old center by boat - Part II

by Luchonda

Leaving the center direction north, you will float on the river "Leie", on your left the wine house distributor. (Wine was only for the upper class). Furthermore the previous "Fish market"
on the left and the "Meat halls" on your right.
Enjoy your "cruise" and look at :
-"The Castle" previous residence of the counts and actually completely renovated
-"The House of Allyns" - refugee house for poor women
-"The industrial bakery" actualy a top hotel Ghent River Hotel
-"August Monastery" : believe it or not , that time located opposite the redlight district
-"Het Rabot" - previous sluice gate
So and than back to the basic camp - the "Graslei"
No laughing, this boat trip is recommendable, you will learn how people lived hundreds of years ago, from grains to breweries, from castles, upper classes and there wine, from textile factories to bakeries, from monasteries and .....
