More about Holiday Inn Gent Expo
WOW!!!!!
by TripAdvisor Member Noedo
Everything what we looked for, we found in Holiday Inn Gent Expo : warm & friendly welcome and a lot of documentation about Ghent, delicious & enough food, clean room and a modern building (Hughe rooth in glass, having an Atrium). We were certainly not disappointed to have chosen for a location outside the city centre of Ghent (no traffic noise!!). Tramstation was situated about 100m from the hotel and going every 10 minutes into town. Staff was very friendly (greeted correctly every time we passed by) and helpful for any request for information. Some staff were working from the morning till late in the evening (wow) with a big smile, they really love doing their job!!! Never visited Ghent? Do not hesitate and book a room: Count castle, St-Bath-Cathedral-Belfort-small cosy streets with style 1800, streets with canals, shopping streets and lots of restaurants and bars and musea. Going back in July for the "Ghent Festivities": a lot of acts in the streets, music and ambiance. Let the noise stay in town, I'm going back to Holiday Inn Gent Expo! See you!
Great Hotel in Ghent

We stayed here for two nights in August and were very pleasantly surprised. From the outside the hotel looked like a very standard Holiday Inn however inside it was lovely and the staff were all exceptionally friendly. Our room was upgraded to a suite which was of a very high standard. On our first evening we decided to have dinner in the hotel and were very pleased with our choice. Although the hotel is a little bit out of Ghent, you can get the tram from outside the hotel effortlessly. This meant we didn't have to hunt for parking spaces in Ghent.
All in all we were absolutely delighted with this hotel and will definitely stay here on our next trip to Ghent.
Mega-fabulous experience!

Had no idea what to expect but this turned out to be a Goldilocks type of experience-- just right and pitch perfect for my travel style.
Every thing at Holiday Inn Gent Expo was excellent, comfortable, clean, secure, and every one was super friendly and helpful! Not much more you could hope for at a chain hotel, whether on vacation or business.
This Gent Expo hotel must be one of the best-run Holiday Inns of the entire chain-- in one of the coolest, most picturesque, most FUN but very under-rated cities in Europe.
Front desk staff provided exceptional service and had the best attitude all the time-- helpful, prompt with messages, responsive, polite and nice, and *always* tried their best to make sure the guest was happy with the service or amenities.
They were very friendly, happy and professional-- not just at check-in or -out, but during the ENTIRE stay. This is hard to find at most any accommodation.
Room rate included breakfast buffet, which was surprisingly great in variety, quantity and quality. Superb coffee as well-- quite impressive for a hotel. Guests are pretty much guaranteed to never walk out hungry in the morning.
This hotel technically may not be central or within walking to all the shops/activities in town BUT... because it is at a terminus of tram line #1 it is actually a super-convenient location.
Just 1-2 minutes maximum walking from Holiday Inn to the Flanders Expo stop where, if the tram wasn't already there waiting, you'd never wait more than five minutes to catch the next one.
Ten minutes later you're already in the busiest markets and squares of Gent, in the prime restaurant/shopping areas. Public transit in this city just could NOT be easier.
The hotel has parking too, so if driving, you can go to almost any part of Flanders, Belgium or northern France easily for the day. You can do quick getaways to Bruges, Oostend or even Brussels by rail or auto. This really seems an ideal spot to base a vacation stay, whether in town or getting out; train station is just 3 tram stops away.
As far as the hotel room, it was great. Bed is comfortable, room and bathroom clean, lighting good, plenty of amenities; everything is spic-n-span and easy to use. Housekeeping was extremely efficient and never intrusive.
Now I'm not into paying hundreds extra just to stay at a prestige or luxury spot. What I value is having a comfortable, clean, quiet, secure room in a pleasant place; rather than a four-or-five-star accommodation to pamper me with miscellaneous luxury services.
Honestly, even if you only travel once a year, over time you'll probably come to understand that five-star hotels don't necessarily guarantee you five-star customer service.
In my experience-- and I'm rather nitpicky at times-- there was absolutely nothing lacking or disappointing at all in this hotel. OK maybe one thing: beer at the hotel bar was over-priced. But this is characteristic of most hotels everywhere, though.
Gent Expo Holiday Inn is truly a low-key hidden gem and fantastic hotel value.

Stayed in this hotel for one night in August. The staff is very friendly, they really do their best to give their guests a pleasant stay. Breakfast was very good, no complaints. The rooms are big, they even have a flatscreen tv, which is a plus. I would recommend this hotel to other people. The rooms are nice and clean. The frontdesk has given us tips about the things and buildings to see in the nice city of Ghent! We could always ask them questions, they were happy to help us. If you are thinking about going to Ghent, don't hesitate, Ghent is one of the most beautiful cities in Belgium and the Holiday inn Ghent expo is an excellent choice!

Outstanding value for money

We booked this hotel for 1 night. The staff was extremely friendly. We received a nice-size room with a seating area and coffee table. The bed and bed linnen were very comfortable. The room also had coffee/tea/hot chocolate making facilities. The bathroom was nice as well and had a full bath. There was free internet access in the room. I used the gym, which had several Life Fitness machines, towels, a flat screen TV with a remote and a water cooler. Unfortunately, we did not have the time to eat at the hotel. The hotel restaurant is actually in the "atrium", of which you get a very nice view when you are in the elevator. Try and book a room early at this hotel, for the best rate.
Terrible ! Do not go to this nightclub if you really want to sleep !!

Incredible. This 4 * hotel transformed into an ordinary nightclub this saturday (04/04)
Loud electronic music, 400 people screaming, laughting, drinking and dancing without limits ... till 3 am in the hart of the hotel !!!
Very funny if you want to sleep at night. I still can't believe this is a 4* hotel ...
Shame on the hotel management !
Not a bad stay, but not the right location if you're looking for Ghent's nightlife.

The hotel seemed a bity pricey, although I got a special deal. I chose this hotel because it was near another event that I was attending, so it worked out for me. It was also easy to get in and out of the city center by tram (only 1.20 euro one-way), which I didn't find out until after I had paid 15.00 euro for a cab ride from the train station. If you stay here, use the tram! The biggest drawback for location would be if you were planning on bar hopping or being in the city later at night. I'm not sure how late the trams run, but it's clearly less convenient than staying in the city center, and there's nothing around the hotel to do, although the hotel itself has a bar and restaurant (both fairly expensive.) The staff was basically helpful and the room was a typical holiday-inn business traveller room... clean, but plain. Not a bad hotel for its purpose, but not really meant for sight-seers.
Modern Hotel, professional staff

Decided on a 2 night stay at Holiday Inn Gent. It is directly opposite IKEA. It is quite difficult to actually get to from the motorway, probably easier to follow the IKEA signs once in the area. Parking at the hotel is 8EUR a night.
Check in was quick and we were given a standard outside facing room overlooking the Expo. The room was clean with Tea/Coffee facilities, flat screen TV with a wide range of channels and an interactive option as well as wireless keyboard.
Breakfast was a buffet option in the atrium, huge selection, deluxe continental with a few hot items. Nice touch was the Hot Chocolate machine. Dinner was equally impressive, we chose a 3 course meal, the starter was from the buffet and the main and dessert were brought to the table. The meals were of excellent standard, and something I would expect in a high quality restaurant.
We needed directions to Breskens, the receptionist said she would come back to us later. When we came back from the city the receptionist had prepared a map for us and very detailed directions.
To get into the city by public transport, just follow the arrows to the tram. Tram No1 takes 5-6 to Gent Sint Pieters Railway Station and a further 10 minutes into the old city.
A very good hotel with excellent staff members, reason enough to return
