If only it were open
This is where I had INTENDED to stay. I had fabulous dreams of playing Klaberjass into the wee, small hours of the Gent mornings. Alas, this property has closed before I arrived. A bit of a tragedy given that it was purportedly the oldest hotel in Gent. No more 40 Euros a night rooms. Let's hope it re-opens keeping some of the old character (at least as shown on a few websites I used).

Den Yzer is an old Hotel in the middle of the Vlaanderenstraat.
Old er people go here to play cards in the afternoon
It is a real typical Gent Hotel
Its a kind of icon for the city.

Vintage Hotel
Hotel staff very friendly and accomodating. They speak dutch, french and english. This hotel is located in the city of Gent and not far from the Center Market area. No telephones in rooms, however, they accept incoming calls at the reception desk and will provide you messages. The atmosphere is close to a bed and breakfast inn. There are pay phones in the area.
Unique Quality: Hotel rates are very low, especially if you stay at least 10 days, a discount is provided. Breakfast is served every morning. The hotel was built in 1888. Rooms vary with/without shower and a common guest toliet. No elevators and narrow stairs, but very cozy and vintage.

Q: Arriving Gent Sint Pieters with medium suitcase "Will we be able to get on a Tram to go to the City Centre with a medium sized suitcase? or should we get a taxi to the hotel -..."
A: "You shouldn't have any problem with the tram. They run regularly and are rarely full except at peak times. Gent taxis are expensive."
