Just a lovely hotel

We have stayed at the Hotel Harmony twice and we will go back again. The rooms are lovely, there is a small swimming pool at the back with a sun terrace. The breakfast is delicious. Drinks a little expensive from the bar but then all of Gent is expensive. The rooms at the front are a little noise from the road below but you dont need to have the window open as there is air conditioning in the room. But the rooms at the front do have the view of the river which is worth a little noise.

Great Hotel - Great Town

by TripAdvisor Member jean-s

I don't think I have anything new to add - I have only praise for this perfectly located hotel in Ghent. We spotted a few of the other hotels on offer as we wandered and this location overlooking the river beat them hands down. (When the new Marriot is completed that will have a good similar location). Our room was a little small with loft windows but I only took this one as it was available at 10.00 am and we were shattered after a ferry crossing and wanted to unpack and relax straight away. They had a bigger room saved for us but I was happy to take this smaller one (room 40). The views were lovely. We wanted to stay for 2 nights and booked the one night hoping they would get a cancellation and we could stay the 2! No chance - the hotel was far too popular. I can recommend the Amadeus restaurants for the ribs. You pay a ridiculous sum(small) for neverending ribs and they measure how much wine you have taken from a huge bottle they leave on the table. Dangerous - but we passed the test and were able to walk out of the restaurant. We went to the one near the main square but there is another just behind the hotel.

Clean and pleasant - more a motel than a boutique hotel!

I was lured by a great location, and some pretty snazzy photographs of the "upscale" lobby of the hotel, but found that it was really a motor lodge, terrific for vacationers with cars, or people travelling with children who need a kitchenette facility, but a disappointment for a tourist looking for a quality hotel experience. My room was in a separate building, and I had to take my luggage outside, through the garage, past the trash containers, down a flight of stairs, to reach the elevator to my room. Since there was only one person on duty, I had to fend for myself the rest of the way with my suitcases. This said, I must also note that the staff was pleasant and professional, the location was excellent and within walking distance to the old Ghent center. Although my room had the ambiance of a Days Inn, it was spotlessly clean and had a great, large bathtub, which proved relaxing after a hard day of sightseeing!

How Refreshing

by TripAdvisor Member lulubunch

How refreshing that a hotel can get it right in every way. I could not fault the Hotel Harmony. We stayed there two nights 18th, 19th March 2007 and was treated to a wonderful comfortable stay. Our room, No.10. currently 170 Euros a night, is on the first floor with a view of the canal directly in front of the hotel. It is decorated in mimimulist style with a gas fire behind glass, sunk into the wall. The bathroom is a dream, with two basins, a huge bath and seperate shower. If you pay 5 Euros, they will deliver breakfast to your room. How do they do this for 5 Euros? Room 11 is also lovely, with a huge bay window with the same view. It is called the Romantic room, and has softer furnishings and a traditional style bathroom. The staff are delightful, and the lady who owns it mucks in and cleans the rooms. If you are there in the summer it would be worth asking for a room on the top floor which has a balcony with views over the rooftops and beyond, also there is a brand new swimming pool being built at the back of the hotel. There are cheaper rooms, they do not have the size or the view, but the service and ambience will be the same. They do have a restaurant and room service, but we did not use it. It seemed very reasonable with a 30 Euro menu. The Hotel is in such a great position right in the old town so there are many, many restaurants within a couple of minutes walk that shout , 'come in and eat'. We only had two nights there and both nights the food was exceptional, in different restaurants. I would recommend Ghent as a fantastic weekend destination.

Simply marvellous

We chose the Hotel Harmony for a 4 night stay after reading the reviews on this site and we were not disappointed.
We opted for a room at the rear of the hotel because of the noise issues raised by some reviewers.
The hotel is in a cobbled one way street so some tyre noise is inevitable but the street wasn't very busy while we were there. The trams run about 100 yards away - not in front of the hotel.
So if you have any concerns about noise it's better to go for a room at the rear - no view of the canal & town but it is cheaper.

Room 12 was a delight, quiet & spacious with a jacuzzi/shower and the TV had BBC1 & 2.
There was an excellent choice for breakfast and the staff were very helpful.
In short this is a very high standard hotel for the price.

We can also recommend the 2 nearby restaurants we tried - the Spare Rib Caffe a few doors from the hotel and the Brasserie t'Klokhuys a couple of minutes walk away in Corduwainersstraat where we enjoyed excellent meals at sensible prices.

We would definitely return to Ghent just for the hotel and the restaurants.

Fab Fantastic and I'm fussy!

by TripAdvisor Member LouisLondon

What a piece of paradise..this hotel is truly fab. Bedrooms, particulary 'exceptional' ones overlooking the river could not be better. Really tastefully designed, some modern and others period style. Staff excellent and friendly. Later this year the hotel will open an outdoor heated swimming pool, cant wait to return

Dinning room a little bit disappointing and the breakfast is not quite same standard as everything else...
Highly recommend a visit to Gent and the Harmony

Fantastic!

by TripAdvisor Member YorkshireSweetpea

A fantastic hotel! . The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was immaculate (as was all of the hotel) and had a roof terrace over looking the river. We had no problems noise even though the streets were full of Newcastle united fans!. The rooms are very modern and very tastefully decorated. Breakfast which was a continental buffet breakfast was VERY good and you can order waffles, bacon and eggs to be made for you at no extra charge. Try the waffles they are marvelous! Like I said, a Fantasic hotel

A real gem. Brilliant!

by TripAdvisor Member PennyPurples

After a somewhat stressful drive to find the hotel (be warned - Ghent has a pedestrians-only town centre!) we were greeted professionally and given directions to the car park (necessary in a town like Ghent). We were delighted with our room, which was decorated in a very modern style, with a reasonable size bathroom and good strong shower placed centrally over the bath. We only had breakfast in the room as we were dining elsewhere, but this is done very well, with plentiful choice and good service. We would go for a room at the front of the building next time to get a view over the water.

Fabulous Hotel - Near Everthing!

by TripAdvisor Member MDJDenver

This is a fabulous hotel....we stayed in a luxury room and it was just perfect...there was a small kitchen area with combo oven and half fridge which allowed us to pick up food from a local deli and have a wonderful happy hour on our mini terrace overlooking the castle. They thought of everything...dishes, silverware, espresso pot. This was just what we wanted after eating out the previous three days and nights in Brugge. Our quiche the morining we left was enjoyed on our terrace.....perfect! The bathroom and sitting room was spacious and the overall decor very pleasing. There is a incredible little wine, beer and grocery store on a small street directly behind the hotel (Melanie's World) that was just perfect for that late night bottle of wine. The hotel is located near everything...wonderful shopping and cafes. Our only regret was not staying longer (only 1 night after 3 in Brugge which was way too much). You can't go wrong staying in this little gem!!

Perfect in every way!

by TripAdvisor Member Waiting4NextTrip

Absolutely perfect! Great location just minutes walk from Metro/Tram stop. Staff very friendly and helpful. Unlimited internet access from rooms at affordable price. Breakfast had a good selection & included in room rate. Room 11 had romantic canal view & great claw foot bathtub. Definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers in Ghent.

A: "You shouldn't have any problem with the tram. They run regularly and are rarely full except at peak times. Gent taxis are expensive."
