A Change of Name

We were booked in to the Sofitel Belfort Gent Hotel but it seemed to have disappeared!
In its place was the NH Gent Belfort which had not had time to erect new signage since taking over.
A very helpful Porter escorted us to the welcoming Receptionist and all was explained. it seems all the staff had to re-apply for their old jobs and all were kept on. There are expectations that the new management are planning to make a considerable investment in the hotel and that those areas showing signs of wear and tear - like landing and corridors carpets, some bathrooms - will be brought back up to 4* standard.
The public rooms are in good order, if a bit dated and an excellent buffet breakfast is served - normally 20 euro but included in our booking deal.

We had no complaints at all about our spacious, comfortably furnished room. Both the room and the bathroom were clean but general housekeeping was a little lax and needs tightening.

This was one of the few package deals we have done and was very good value. We booked through VFB (UK) and the package included 3 nights B&B plus return Eurostar travel London - Gent.

Unique Quality: Very good location in the historical city centre. Welcoming and helpful staff. No pretentions - a very relaxed atmosphere.

Ex Sofitel Hotel re-named as NH ...

Ex Sofitel Hotel, as well named now as NH, is located in a historical part and several other places, squares etc are about 15 mins walk ... Hotel offers a car park (paid) if u have a car ... Several cosy bars and small classic restaurants just several minutes walking distance, especially at evening preferable to walk as city and historical places have an amazing view w the lights and shadows ...

Rooms are big and well furnished, good on housekeeping, also the breakfast is ok, what I dont like is the service staff which look tired and give u just short answers not to deal w u in a proper way ....

Concerning for several day stays, its ok to accomodate .....

Good Location

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights, had a lovely room with extra sofa bed. An extra feature was the real big bathroom.
The included breakfast came as buffet and had everything you need for a good start in the day.
The bar in the lobby was nice, but (as usual in hotels) quite expensive.
We would recommend it, if you´re looking for a nice hotel near the city centre.

Unique Quality: Near city center only 5-8 minutes by tram, which has a station a few meters up the road.
If you prefer to walk, it´s only about 15 minutes and you can walk along the Henleykanaal to avoid the traffic on the main roads.
They have private parking, but there is also plenty of on street parking for a cheaper price, i.e.you pay €2,50 for a long stay ticket (9.ooh-19.ooh).
