distance from cruise port of zebrugges to blankenberge
by delila
We will be in Zebrugge in June as one of our ports of call. We are hoping to get to Bruges on our own instead of taking a taxi or ship excursion. How far is the walk to the train in Blankenberge from where the cruise ships dock? (assuming it's walkable 1-2 miles_ Many thanks!

you could take the coast tram as well and drive approx 40 minutes? to Oostende and from there it is less then 10 minutes by train to Bruges.
But there is a train station in Zeebrugge dorp as well going directly to Brugge.
Maybe you have to take a tram from the embarking place to the village of Zeebrugge? not sure.
have a look at the trainschedules:

chose English if that is more convenient.
Travel Tips for Blankenberge
Shopping!
by funkymama
SHOPPING IN BLANKENBERGE. Shopping centre: Cosy shopping and walking streets, traffic-free in the summer. The main street is the Kerkstraat from the station to the Sea-Promenade. Blankenberge has more to offer than nice beaches. Everybody will enjoy a walk through the busy shopping streets of the center of the city. In earlier times Blankenberge was nothing more than a small fishermen village at the coast. Because of its rather strategic position, the little village was often plundered and destroyed. Also the sea sometimes proved to be not only a source of income, but also a source of destruction through flooding. It was in the 19th century that the small town became one of the first Belgian seaside-resorts visited by tourists. Around 1850 the first (but not the last) hotels were constructed.
Harbour
by Luchonda
On the Western side of the beach is the yacht-harbour. This large basin used to be the fisher harbor of Blankenberge. But this changed last century - after the last worldwar it became a yacht-harbour for middle sized boats. ( text from the tourist info brochure )

"the beach in Blankenberge"
in july and august always full of beachchairs and wooden beach cabines. You can hire them and put in all your things, as toys for the children, parasol, beach bal, and so on ... you can change clothes in swimming suit too is this small wooden house. It is easy when you stay at the beach for a period in summertime.
