We will be arriving into Zeebrugge in September for 1 day only. We really want to visit Poelkapelle War Cemetery and it looks like we will have to drive there.
Would we be able to get a car rental in Zeebrugge or Blankenberge?
Good question and one I looked into. Neither Zeebrugge or Blankenberge have easily identifiable car rental offices. That leaves either Bruges airport which is 30 or so minutes from Bruges or Bruges itself. Europcar have an office in Bruges so check them out. It's about 20 minutes on the train from Zeebrugge. Poelkapelle would then be about an hours drive from Bruges. CWGC.com will provide cemetery records and directions. It isn't possible by train so best of luck with your search.
Another option is to take to tram (that runs along the belgian coastline) towards Knokke (takes about 20 minutes, but it might takes some time to get out of the "harbor").
There are several rentals here (you can have a look at www.goudengids.be). One of the bigger ones is "Luxauto", near the trainstation of Knokke (tram stops here as well).

This is Blankenberge seafront view from the shore. Those building are mostly appartments and you can find a few hotels too but I believe there are more hotels and lodging Inns at the downtown just behind the seafront buildings. loaded of good seafoods and local restaurants and cafes....plus, some amusements centers.
Blankenberge is more popular to tourisic seaside in belgium rather than the city center itself. It is a great experience to come and see this part of belgian coast, the NORTH SEA. A lot of people come in the summer, but usually we came here for a day, if you live from far, then you can stay in some hotels around.
First half of the 18th century, tourism at he Belgian coast already became popular.
Next to Zeebrugge Blankenberge (Blank Dunes) has it's highlighst. Like the sandsculpture festifal.
Sandsculpture time again at the belgian coast. Blankenberge - located between Ostend and Zeebrugge is ready for the 2004 festival.
The theme in Blankenberge was "Bella Italia" - so you better have a look at my Italy page to see what international carvers did again.
The theme in Zeebrugge was "Holywood" - so one trip more to the belgian coast.
