Just a 10 minute walk fro the station

Convenient, clean, nice breakfast, friendly staff, fridge, free internet. Could not fault it really.

A great location and every comfort

Unusually for us we were on a mini-package tour so had not selected the hotel ourselves. We need not have worried because this turned out to be an excellent base for our stay in Brugge.
It is situated in a quiet street leading to the Minne Water; at the other end of the street the road leads straight down to the Markt passing many historic sites en the way. In both directions there is a very good choice of restaurants, a small Carrefour supermarket- great for prepared salads and sandwich snacks, and excellent patisseries and bakeries - which we tried hard to avoid!
Our room on the first floor (served by a new lift) was quite spacious, very well equipped with a nice bathroon. It overlooked an inner courtyard so was very quiet.

Free wifi was available throughout the reception/lounge area with one PC for guests use in the salon. I had fun finding my way around the keyboard on that one!

An adequate self-service breakfast was served in the attractive dining room with a good selection of breads, fruit and continental and hot cooked food available.I particularly enjoyed the scrambled eggs with chopped smoked bacon.
The original hotel was formerly an old commercial building, restored and converted to an hotel in the 1980s. Since then, sympathetically refurbished and extended, it is now on several levels but corridors have little slopes rather than steps between different sections of the building.
It was a bit of a route march from the top of the stairs, or from the adjacent lift to our room (115) so could be difficult for anyone with mobility problems and advisable to ask for a ground floor room or one close to the lift.

We would certainly stay here again.

Quiet and friendly

A friendly welcome and helpful reception throughout our stay. The room and its bathroom were a bit poky - no lift for the final few stairs - but clean with everything working well. Breakfast was fine but needed fresh fruit rather than only tinned. Coffee strong enough and hot, but cooked eggs, sausages etc. could get cold as not topped up regularly when hotel not full - nice do-it-yourself boiled eggs machine. Free internet access in lounge, but might be a queue to use it.

A hotel to relax in. Check the prices before you book as prices offered on the web can change frequently. It got cheaper a couple of days before our stay.

Much cheaper to leave your car in the station car park (2.5 euros a day) than in the hotel facility.

2 Stars in a 4****

We booked this 4**** Hotel a few days in advance and there was rebates, so we had our double room for just 80 euros (instead of 175 Euros for the same room)...

The Hotel is only 10 min walking from the Railway station, you can enjoy the view on the Minnewater (the lake of love) during your walk, the hotel is located in the south part of Brugge, in a charming little street, no cars, just bicycles (and horses!). You can do whatever you want from here since the city is tiny, but ride a bicycle is usual and fun...

The Academie Hotel is a great 4****, even if the entrance is a bit weird.. you discover behind a great bar, a winter garden full of green plants, the hotel is divided in to 3 buildings, there is a covered passage to join the three, a modern lift, the place is so quiet...

Room is great, when you switch on the light at first, it shades from dark to light, cool... bed was giant, bathroom was complete, verry clean with everything needed...

Breakfast room is downstairs in the main building, atmosphere is pleasant with old foundation of the building, there is so much to eat, we enjoyed our stay!

Unique Quality: Close to main activities in Brugge, calm place, great room & breakfast

Modern Comfort in Old Brugge

The Hotel Academie is a 4 * hotel in a quiet location. It is housed in a building that is about 100 years old, but the hotel is completely modern. We had a triple room that was large with a large modern bath.

They have a restaurant and lounge. Breakfast was buffet with a nice selection of hot and cold offerings.

It is located about a 15 minute walk from the Grand Place.

BRUGGE'S BEST HOTEL....

This fine hotel is situated in the GOLDEN TOURISTIC TRANGLE of BRUGGE and only 50 meters away from the famous Lake of Love (het MINNEWATER) and the CONVENT(the BEGUINAGE).

The most known sightseeing attractions are all within walking distances!

Unique Quality: Rooms go from Singles to quadruples and make a diversified whole.

Also a lounge, an enjoyable bar, a green wintergarden, an underground parking for 26 cars and a RESTAURANT (groups) are at your disposal!

More about Academie

Excellent Hotel - Fabulous Location

by TripAdvisor Member Gramercy97

I stayed for one night in November 2006. The room was clean, cozy, nicely furnished and the amenities were laid out. A lovely buffet breakfast was served in the breakfast room of the hotel. You had a choice of hot or cold. The staff was very helpful, and there was free internet access in the lounge. They will also hold your luggage after check out.

Academie Hotel is located in the Beguinage area of the city, and is close to both the train station and the center of town. Nothing can beat this location. It's on a side street, but don't let that deter you. The access to the town market is a quick ten minute scenic walk. It's actually part of the walking tour route. After seeing the hotels crammed in the center of town, I realized how lucky I was to stay in such a nicer, more quiet part of the city.

The main street off of the hotel is loaded with restaurants and chocolate shops.

Can't recommend

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed in this hotel the weekend of March 25/26. We booked it late and thought this will do. However we should have listened to the past reviews as this hotel was very disappointing. First of all there wasn't even a mini bar in the room or a folder of any services that the hotel offers etc. They had set the heating at 26 degrees which was way to hot and we were unable to decrease the temperature. I eventually went down to reception to ask them about it and they said they would decrease the temperature through their computer system, but to no avail. We eventually turned it off. There was numerous hairs in the bath when we arrived and i looked under the bed for any of our belongings when we were checking out and found numerous deodorants cans, socks, tissues, chip packets etc from previous guests. For the price it was very over-rated and wouldn't recommend this hotel to any of my friends but can recommend the town - it was great.

I Would Definitely Recommend It

I stayed at The Academie for 3 nights during a very busy 'bank' holiday period. The room was large and clean as was the bathroom. There was a small television with a few British channels such as BBC1, ITV and Sky News as well as a few others which was good enough. It was a hot weekend therefore I was glad that there was air-con installed which was controllable. The receptionists were really friendly and more than helpful with all of my queries. Breakfast was amazing, a massive and varied buffet selection.

The location is fairly good, about 2 minutes to The Minnewater and a good 10 minute walk to The Markt.

The only thing I would 'moan' about is in high season if your room is overlooking the street, the horse & carriage rides are extremely noisy as the hotel is on a narrow cobbled street and they go on late into the night. Ear plugs would be advisable or ask for a room at the back.

All in all, it's one of the best 'budget' hotels that I have stayed in, in Belgium.

Friendly & Comfortable

by TripAdvisor Member Suzannebrit

We stayed at the hotel between 5th - 8th April. Hotel is situated down a little side street in centre of Brugge. Room was clean and comfortable, modern decor. No kettle in room which you would expect with 4* Breakfast basic but good enough, shame about the tinned fruit though. Friendly and helpful staff on Reception, one Pc for internet access. Little courtyard to sit out around raised ponds in the Summer. Great location for exploring by foot, close to all the main tourist attractions in Brugge. If you can, take a trip to Hill 62 (Sanctuary Wood)just outside Ypres, then Ypres itself and Tyne Cot cemetery, really brings WW1 home to you. If you have ancestors who died, do some research beforehand, I found two graves at Menin Gate and Tyne Cot which really made the visit to Brugge worthwhile. There are plenty of places to eat at reasonable cost and some nice shops for the Belgium chocolate!
