Hello All

I'm thinking of renting the "CASA DA VINCI" house in Bruges during April. Any comments on this house?

Thanks for your help.

Re: "CASA DA VINCI" Bruges

by Odinnthor

I have not used it personally, - however, - I have used it for clients when I was designing private tours, based on industry contacts information. My clients were upscale and were happy with it (I used it twice). Although I put most of my clients in five star properties, they seemd to love this place. I do remember two couples that stayed at the George V in Paris, and then in Casa da Vinci in Bruges. It is of course not in the George V class, but it served the purpose for my guests as they spent some time there entertaining guests, and wanted a functional place to do so personally, without (their idea of) opulence. Bear in mind that it was not recently so take this for what it is worth. Good luck.

Travel Tips for Brugge

The Minnewater

by Toyin

Minnewater is a charming and romantic spot. It is widely referred to as the "The Lake of Love", "Liebessee", "Lac d'Amour" etc Which I was told is an incorrect, but more interesting translation for the tourists.

Brugge for kids.

by phoaquinjoenix

There's a lot for kids to do in Brugge.
In the summer the beach is only 15 minutes away by train - up to age 12 kids are free if accompanied by an adult.
In the last week of april/1st week of may the Meifoor or fair comes to Brugge for a month. It's not the cheapest of days out, but it's fun and quite big.
The horse and carriage rides and boat rides have probably been mentioned a thousand times.
Try Astrid park (opposite the fishmarket theres a small street - follow it all the way down and you're at astrid park) which has a small playground, pond and bandstand.
The children's farm is in assebroek. Take the number 2 bus which goes to the hospital and ask the driver to take you to the 'kin-der-bor-der-eye'. This place has a cafe that opens from 2pm, a playground, a large goat field with access, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, donkeys, ponys and cows.
Hire tandem bikes at a number of places in the city centre - Brugge has so many bike paths that it is safe for kids.
In warm weather drive a couple of miles to the Lak van Loppem (Loppem lake) where the locals have a dip or sunbathe on the sandy shore.
In bad weather - and Brugge has it's share - there are two indoor children's play areas. Beware - Brugge is still a smoker's city. Adults can smoke in the cafe's in these buildings. Try the Toverplaneet (tunnels and balls and things to climb) which although they have an area for toddlers I'd recommend for age 7 and over as the bigger kids can get quite wild, and then the Speeldorp (play-village) which is better for the younger ones. Neither place charges more than 5 euros a child. And smuggle snacks and drinks in - just make sure they don't see you!

The Basilica of the Holy Blood

by Toyin

The pics shows the entrance to the Basilica of the Holy Blood. The door to the left lead down to the 12th century Romanesques lower church whereas the right-hand door leads to the upper chapel dating back from the 15th century and restored in a Neo-Gothic style in the 19th century.

Everyone probably already knows this, but the Belgians eat their French (Belgian?) fries with mayonaise instead of catsup. Well, give it a try, you might like it. I did give it a try and am sticking with catsup. To each his own.

Every year, At Ascension day...

by filipdebont

Every year, At Ascension day you can see the Holy Blood Procession. This is very beautiful procession partly religious, partly historical. It gives a unique atmosphere, all those magnificent clothes in a medieval background. (This year it is the 1st of June)
