by pepemorris11

I will be taking a train with my husband from Roosendaal to Brugge. Unfortunately the websites for Belgium rail and Netherlands rail are unable to give me a price for 2nd class. can anyone help?
By the way, is there a difference between Brugge /Brugges/ Bruges st pieters?at which station do i get off if i m going to Hotel Jan Brito in Freren Fonteinstraat 1 Bruges 8000?
also confused as to Brussels and Bruxxeles. are they the same? soory if my spelling is not so good.
does anyone know of a good b and b in ecternach luxembourg near the train station or a cheap but clean hotel?thanks heaps

I looked at the Dutch rail website (www.ns.nl) and I couldn't find on the English pages a way to price an international ticket. This surprises me because I'm pretty sure you used to be able to do that...oh, well...

I went to the Dutch home page (Marked as "Nederlands"), and a link at the top appeared: "Internationale reizen" (international trips). This link leads to pages only in Dutch, but (thanks to Old English and German), I can read enough Dutch to at least get you what appears to be the full fare price (for one person), 2nd class, one way - it gave a price of 21.80 euro for an "open" ticket. I assume that this is a ticket that is flexible, as opposed to a discount ticket that it for a given time and date - but I can't read the Dutch well enough to know.

Well, I see that there are often 2 solutions offered during the day, on with 2 changes and one with only one change:
#1.
08.09.08
Dep 08:34 Roosendaal 4a IC 9216 - InterCity
Arr 09:01 Antwerpen Centraal
Dep 09:06 Antwerpen Centraal IC 709 - InterCity <==NOTE 5 minutes to make the connection!
Arr 09:55 Gent St Pieters
Dep 10:03 Gent St Pieters IC 1530 - InterCity
Arr 10:27 Brugge

#2.

08.09.08
Dep 08:34 Roosendaal 4a IC 9216 - InterCity
Arr 09:01 Antwerpen Centraal
Dep 09:22 Antwerpen Centraal IC 1831 - InterCity
Arr 10:40 Brugge

Note that #2 takes about 15 minutes longer, but has only 1 change (not 2, as in #1), and avoids that quick change in Antwerp.

Hopefully, a Dutch member will join us and confirm this...

As a confirmation, I went to the Belgian national railway site at http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/ where they have an option for international travel right there on the first page.

However, the way the website is laid out is a bit silly, since even though you have entered to start and destination and gotten some solutions, when you click on "BUY TICKETS ONLINE", it forgets where you wanted to go and resets your trip to "Brussels" and "Paris", so you have to re-enter your start and destination again. Well, after messing with it, it yielded the same price as the Dutch site for a 2nd class, one way ticket: 21.80 euro.

Brussels (English) = Bruxelles (French) = Brussel (Fleming/Dutch). Belgium is an officially bi-lingual country of French and Flemish (a variation of Dutch), so you will see both spellings in Belgium...of course, we English speakers have to spell it another way...oh, well...;-)

Travel Tips for Brugge

You must go and see Belfort...

by sandravdp

You must go and see Belfort Tower, The City Hall, The Holy Blood Church, Brugge Cathedral, The O.L.V. Church, the canals & you must pay a visit to a brewery or chocolate making tour. Going to the funfair and acting crazy in 'The haunted house' was quite nice to do LOL. I also loved shopping here and making lots and lots of pictures of all Brugges beauty.

Another VT meeting

by Helga67

3 Meetings in 2 different countries in 1 week. Who can do better? ;-) Indeed, this was the third time that my husband and me met Steve (Steventilly).
After meeting Steve in York and later him and his wife in Knokke-Heist, we got along well. So we thought it would be a nice idea of spending another day together in Bruges. And indeed it was a lovely afternoon doing some sightseeing and having dinner.

Burg

by steventilly

One of the main squares in Brugge. In this square are the Provosts House, the Town Hall, the Basilica Of The Holy Blood and the Palace of Justice. All of these buildings are truly splendid and The Gothic Room within The Town Hall is one of the finest period rooms in Europe.

There is a street leading out of Burg called Blinde Ezelstraat, which means Blind Donkey Street, one of my favourite street names in the whole of europe!

Dammes Village

by cluny6

A 5 min drive or 20 min bike ride along one of the canals is the village of Dammes. This is a tiny village with a lovely windmill, an old church and plenty of restaurants. In short, a beautiful village close by worth a visit. It has plenty of restaurants with good food and better prices than Bruges. I understand there is also a boat that will take you here from Bruges for about 10 Euros.
