Full marks for being traveler friendly....

Not to be confused with Charles Rocket the 56 year old actor from SNL
Celebrity impersonations on SNL
who was found with his throat cut back in 2005, ruled as suicide. He played the villian in Dumb and Dumber.

It`s November 4th 2008 and CNN is on in the background
listening to US election results so I`m a bit distracted¬!
It`s last minute before we have to leave, it`s
6pm on a Friday evening and Clara my daughter that she wants to
bring Poci her dog on our trip to Brugge...Aaah!
I`m over from Budapest and in her home in Brussels using Skype Out
to call available hotels and hostels in Brugge, using Skype I don!t have to pay
calling to landlines...I bought a Belgian sim card for 10 Euros with 7 euros talk time,
but saving that for emergencies. The only place that would accept me coming with a dog
was Charlie`s Rocket and we get our own room for the price of 2 dorm beds..
A 1 hour train trip from Brussels Midi and then a 10 minute bus ride from the station.
The bus driver was very friendly and spoke good English. Then after another ten mins,
we found the Hostel. It was a very busy bar, choc a block with English speaking
weekenders, a few locals and a very buzzing atmosphere, we managed to snake and elbow
our way towards the bar, with Poci the dog and bags in tow.

Unique Quality:
The bar man was the receptionist.
After 10 mins between serving up rounds of drinks, we were signed in and paid 32 euros for a small room. I guess he didn`t want to put us in a dorm, being with a dog and a minor...but
was very kind and charged us the dorm rate.....A kindness not often found these days in
a town that hosts 3 million tourists a year...A very enjoyable stay.....fantastic location and
a free breakfast in the morning.....TOP MARKS FOR BUDGET TRAVELERS
But recommend if your not winging it like we were, then maybe spend that extra 20 to 30 Euros
and get cleaner carpets, better lit rooms and cleaner bathrooms...But for the price...no one has the right to complain.

situated in what used to be the biggest movie theatre in Bruges, but is now one of the trendiest cafes in town. The hostel is located in the old city centre, one minute walk from the famous canals, the city hall and the main square.

There is a famous bar and Italian restaurant inside. (Pizza's and pasta's) There are 5 pool tables and dartboards available. Internet access available. FREE WIFI. There are TV's where you can catch major sports events, or watch music videos. Live concerts from October till May on Weekends. The bar serves many local belgian beers. Some rooms has private facilities. (New wing) ONE FREE BELGIAN BEER with your lunch or dinner in the restaurant

There are 19 rooms available. (some with private facilities)

PS
There is a MATCH supermarket down the road headed east 5 minutes away....open until
about 8 pm ..not sure though

Very good hostel

Charlie Rocket's has a perfectly central location, clean dorms and bathrooms, and a great inexpensive bar downstairs. A very good budget option with dorm beds for about 15€ and doubles for 45€.

Unforgettable

Stayed here on several occasions. This is a hostel with a 'theme' bar - it used to be a cinema and all the bits are still here, plus loads of americana, film posters etc. Fabulous food - mostly tex-mex but there appears to be a new Italian bit too - not tried it yet. Large range of drinks.
Rooms very clean - all sorts from huge to tiny. Good, hot clean showers.

Unique Quality: This was the hostel where, when we had to leave very early (ie, after 4am when they close and before 8am when they re-open) they simply stayed open to ensure that the taxi was called etc!

Be aware though - when they say that any internet booking is not confirmed until you receive their e-mail, they mean it. On sad occasion we turned up to find that the booking had not been confirmed and they were full! They did arrange for us to stay somewhere else though - see Bauhaus entry!

Looks cool...

Unique Quality: I didn't stay here. Just passed by and saw this hostel. Thought it was cool and nice (well from the outside). Situated near the main square thus definitely strategically located. I think it is very accessible for back packers as it is within walking distance to everywhere around the town.
