Nice property in a great location. But expect problems.
The Crowne Plaza Brugge is perfectly located in the very center of Brugge. Rooms are surprisingly spacious for a European hotel and its rooms with two double beds may make it the best choice for families visiting this town. There were many problems with services and amenities during my stay, but if you can get a good rate this is a relatively safe bet.
Perfect location: Those in Brugge for tourism will appreciate the location on Burg Square, right next to the historic town hall. The hotel is also walking distance from all the main tourist attractions. There are also many restaurants in the vicinity.
The room: Our family room was spacious (by European standards) and the two double beds were quite comfortable. The window gave a lovely view of the square. Be mindful though that there may be public concerts at night on the square, especially during the summer months.
Amenities: There was complimentary mineral water and chocolate, a coffee maker, a small desk and small TV. However most english channels were not working - BBC News, CNN, Bloomberg and CNBC were absent. This problem compounded with internet access problems - the wireless signal was so weak I could not connect in the room. It was also quite warm during our stay and the aircon was not working.
Food: Room service menu is very limited but there are two restaurants on site which are priced reasonably compared to what's outside.
Service was the weakest point of our stay. The accumulation of problems (no aircon, malfunctionning TV and Internet (€10/day), and parking issues (€20/day) which all persisted during our 3-day stay) were a bit too much and staff didn't care to address them.
Having said that, at €79 a night this was a good value. Service and technical problems were very disapointing but the location and the quality of the property were above average for a Crowne Plaza and made up for the rest.
Regarding Brugge, I would recommend staying two nights to enjoy the city at a leisurely pace. Keep in mind that most museums are closed on monday. The town of Damme (5 miles east) makes a lovely half-day excursion. Also don't miss visiting the basement of this hotel which exposes the foundations of a church it was built on.
