Brugge in December/January

by Illuminee

I'm planning to visit Brugge with my boyfriend in our winter holidays which are Dec. 19th - Jan. 4th.
Would you recommend to go before or after Christmas? We're not to keen on thousand of other tourists.. :)

thanks a lot!

I suspect you'll see plenty of tourists whenever you go, at Christmas and over the New Year. To be honest, I don't think it will make much difference whether you go before or after. It's certainly a very popular short-break destination for UK visitors for both celebrations.

Brugge is absolutely lovely. You'll enjoy it whichever time you choose.

Travel Tips for Brugge

Information centre

by kristii

It is located next to Town Hall Square and it provides best information about what is going on in the city. You can find out straight away where are the best prices to have a canal tour or about the museum tickets. Where are interesting events and where you can have loads of fun :)

Books, movies and websites

by Dabs

I brought two guidebooks with me, Frommers Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg and Lonely Planet's Belgium and Luxembourg. Brugge's surface is just scratched in both books and both cover pretty much the same information.

The website I found most helpful was Brugge's tourism website which included several excellent walking tours

We saw this movie long after our visit to Brugge but I'd highly recommend watching In Bruges with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson star as hitmen whoscrew up and are exiled to Brugge, one of them is taken in by the history and beauty of the city and the other is wondering why the heck he was exiled there. Not a movie for the kiddies as there's plenty of violence and profanity, I thought it was a clever, funny movie and Brugge itself should have top billing on the credits.

As you can see on this picture...

As you can see on this picture Bruges (and also this page) is under construction. The reason that Bruges is under construction is that it will be the 'Cultural Centre of Europe' in 2002. Special for this year, the city will prepared to give you a much nicer and better trip. If you want to visit Bruges, just wait until next year when all works are finished and you will enjoy it much better. I do not say that you have to change you're travel plans, but if you want to go in the future, just go in 2002 and enjoy a well cleaned city.

Beautiful stuff!

by rexvaughan

Wednesday morning is market day on the Markt Square and it is well worth a stroll. The fruits, vegetables and flowers are all lovely. You might even want to pick up some stuff for a picnic lunch. These markets I find quite alluring - maybe because we do not have such things in the US and because all the fruits and vegetables look so delicious and do not disappoint.

Ronde Van Vlaanderen - 2

by filipdebont

Sunday April 3rd 2005 : start of Tour of Flanders (Ronde van Vlaanderen) - 256 kilometers of naughty hills and cobbled stones.

The picture shows George Hincapie - (team Discovery Channel).

Discovery Channel a ver strong team with good young cyclists like Stijn Devolder, Leif Hoste. And of course the Boss himself, Mister Lance Armstrong. Race bike
