We stayed three nights here, but would loved to have stayed longer. This charming hotel directly across the main canal and walking distance to the square was an excellent choice. The owners, brother and sister (whose family has owned it for generations) could not have been more friendly or accomodating. We were even treated to a complimentary mini-tour of the city after we checked in! Looking forward to visiting Brugge again and will definitely stay at the Die Swaane (The Swan) on all of our future trips to this beautiful town.
I had read reviews of this hotel discussing street noise and insufficient air conditioning, so we took care to ask for a room at least one floor up from street level. It also wasn't a hot weekend, so air conditioning was not an issue. As we avoided the issues others had, it was an all-around excellent hotel.
The service was especially great and the 6-course meal we had in the main hotel restaurant rates as one of the best we've ever had.
The doorman/concierge chatted with me as we waited for our taxi to leave. He stated that if he were visiting in the Summer, he would stay at the newer building across the river as it has better a-c, but in the original building all other seasons, as that is where the better restaurant and pool are located.
We would definitely stay there again.
Directions: From Burg Square, exit on the south and cross the river, take an immediate left (north-east) and the hotel will be a block up on your right. It's a 5 minute walk.
