More about Hotel Prinsenhof

Great little hotel

by TripAdvisor Member pbskibc

A very pleasant hotel, a few minutes walk from all the attractions of Bruges.

Hotel Prinsenhof is located in a quiet side street, the staff are friendly and efficient, the rooms clean, well appointed and spacious.

I'd recommend it.

A Real gem

Splendid, small, neat and very clean family run hotel. Great breakfast. Very polite staff, perfect English spoken. Smart, compact accommodation. Central situation but just off the main drag i.e. quiet. Overall brilliant and good value.

Very Pleasant Stay

by TripAdvisor Member cnajuneh

A fine hotel in a lovely city with an excellent location - 5 minutes from the Markt. Hotel was choosen on the strength of the reviews found here and the hotel's thoroughness in answering pre-booking questions.

Other reviewers have raved about the quality of the staff and the hotel itself - completely agree. Room (#28 on the top floor) was clean and well equipped. The free internet at the kiosk computer was a nice touch as well. Some parking is available at the rear of the hotel.

We choose the Historical Discovery Package (2-hour private tour of Brugge, 6-course meal, museum pass) and would highly recommend it. The tour was exceptional (done by a member of the local historical society) and the meal at Kardinaalshof was a true gastronomic experience. Well worth the extra cost.

Only complaint on amenities are a lack of coffee/tea facilities in the room. To the hotel's credit, they will bring coffee to your room though, understandably it does take about 20 minutes to deliver.

Special note for mid-week ... most restaurants in Brugge are closed on Wednesday. The front desk recommended 3 restaurants for the Wednesday - 2 were closed and we could not locate the last one. Have the hotel call ahead to ensure that the restaurant is open on Wednesday.

Overall - highly recommended. We would stay again.

Refined relaxation

We booked our long weekend away at the Prinsenhoff after reading several glowing reviews - they were spot on! The location was excellent very central for all the main attractions but tucked away down a little side street for a quieter hide-way and only a 5 minute taxi ride from the train station.
The Prinsenhoff was full of charm from it's glorious chandeliers to the fluffy, white bath robes. This little hotel offers elegance and class but is small enough to maintain the friendly personnal touch of a family run affair. All the staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough to please. The breakfast consisted of everything you could possibly want, presented as a buffet served between 8 and 10.30 allowing plenty of scope between breakfast on the run and a nice leisurely start to the day.
The only negative I could possibly find would be to say that we had room 36 and it was alittle small. Although with all the things to do and see in Brugge you will probably have little time to spend in your room anyway!
For the ladies my advise would be to leave two things at home your heals and the diet. All the streets are cobbled and there is a wealth of fabulous restaurants serving even more fabulous desserts!

great family run hotel

by TripAdvisor Member PEC69

picked this hotel after reading the reviews here. very pleased with our choice. stayed for three nights. room was great with a really comfortable bed - turndown service was a nice touch for a hotel of this value (we paid £78 for a double room with breakfast). bathroom was amazing - large bath, separate shower and double sink. buffet breakfast was good and meant we could skip lunch (well, except the odd waffle!).

the staff in the hotel were so friendly and could not do enough for us. the hotel is very central (couple of minutes from the markt) and quiet (tucked away down a side street)

Brugge's best kept secret!

by TripAdvisor Member Davang

We have just enjoyed a wonderful short break in Brugge staying at this delightful family run hotel. The hotel is very central yet very quiet. Our room was excellent with a luxurious bathroom. The little extra touches makes it stand out from the crowd. Breakfast was everything it promised to be and set us up for the day. Although there is no dinner availble to guests, the reception staff provided us with several recommendations and all three that we tried were excellent. A complimentary 2 hour tour of the city is availble to guests Mon-Fri at 2.30pm departing from the Town Hall. This was very entertaining and informative with an excellent guide. We took this up on our first day and it enabled us to decide which attractions to visit later. We chose this hotel because of the reviews it had received on this web site and we were not disappointed.

Wonderful retreat!

by TripAdvisor Member Duettist96

Wonderful hotel. The room was unbelievably quiet and the staff were falling over themselves to help us in every way. they booked restaurants, parked our car and generally arranged anything which we needed and even a few things we hadn't realised we might need! breakfast was wonderful, the service very personal and the hotel was spotless. It might not be the cheapest hotel in Bruges, but I've stayed in a few and this will be the one I return to. Thankyou to the hotel and its staff!

Brugge was great

by TripAdvisor Member briantrousers

We booked this trip vai a web search.
The Prinsenhof seemed to come out well on Trip Advisor, and have relied upon this site for holidays before.
We were not dissapointed, both Bruges and the hotel were excellent, the staff at the Prinsenof could not have been nicer.
Bruges is a beautiful city, we visited in March and were very lucky with the weather. We did the hotels free guided tour of the city, and also a tour of the local 'Zot' brewery, both were excellent.
On the Saturday, we made our own way to Flanders, and visited Tyne Cot cemetary and Hill 62. The private museum at Hill 62 was interesting, but poorly maintained. The trenches there were interesting to see. this and more could have been done via a tour. The tour would have cost approx £80 fo two of us, so we made our own way there. I think we would have got a lot more out of the tour.
We stayed at the Prinsenhof on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. There is presently a building being renovated immediately in front of the Prinsenhof, we were in room 37 in the front of the hotel overlooking the works. This was a problem on the first (Friday) morning (!), and we were woken by the workman a 07:00 local time (which was 06:00 UK time). Therefore, we were a bit tired on the Friday, but that was the only day we were woken ( they didn't work on the Sat or Sun). That said, we would saty at the Prinsenhof again, but if we were there during the week would ask to move room.
The works did however appear to be nearing compleation, but check this out.
All in all excellent, I would reccomend this hotel and if going to Bruges again I would stay there again.

Impressive small hotel

by TripAdvisor Member AH15765

An excellent base for a short stay in Bruges. Althgough quite a small hotel, it is situated in a quiet street within a few minutes walking distance of the Market Square. Staff throughout our stay were very courteous and helpful. Breakfast in the morming was extremely good although the dining room is somwhat cramped - champagne with breakfast certainly made up for the lack of space. Rooms were above average and very clean as was the remainder of the hotel. Although no facilities for evening meals, there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. Extremely good value for money.

Beauty and peace, close to the action

by TripAdvisor Member AThena53

When we decided that a day trip to Bruges was not enough, we chose this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews. We loved it. (Thanks again to my fellow advisors!) The location was perfect for us- close to the center of town but on a quiet street off the main drag. I’d considered the hotels on the canal running $100/night more than the Prinsenhof, but was really glad to have chosen something a little more remote. At night there was pure silence- a true gift in a world of noisy machines. I went out for a walk the next morning and didn’t realize that garbage trucks and motorcycles were out on the main street till I saw them. Our room was still quiet.

Our room was beautiful, spacious and comfortable. From the marketing material it looks like there are many different room styles, so keep in mind that yours may be different from our pictures. Nice touches included a bath mitt rather than a wash cloth, a scented body wash instead of soap (I thought they’d forgotten to put soap in my room till I figured that out), heavy high-thread count sheets and a voucher for a free 2-hour walking tour of Bruges. Even though it was my fourth trip to Bruges, I learned a lot from our guide on the tour. Staff were very helpful and seemed to really want to do whatever they could to make our stay a happy one. and the good-night chocolates- well, what can I say? This is paradise for chocolate aficionados.

We didn’t try the breakfast at 17 Euros per person. Keep an eye out for the Delhaize logo on the main street by the hotel Zuidstraat- it’s a grocery store with a decent selection of prepared foods and indecently cheap (but good) wine.

One tiny minus- the welcome letter in our room was in Flemish only. Flemish is the official language in this part of Belgium and the letter pretty much repeated the information they told us (in fluent English) at check-in, but including translations into other languages or using the translation likely to be appropriate based on the guest’s address would have been helpful.

We loved the Prinsenhof- part of a wonderful stay in Bruges- and look forward to being able to return someday.

Belfry (Belfort)

by valgt

We would love to stay in Bruges and found a hotel (Prinsenhof)that looked perfect. HOwever it is not far from the Belfry (Belfort). The tourist information online says that the bells chimes every quarter of an hour. Does this mean they will chime throughout the night every 15 minutes? I am a light sleeper and would not be able to sleep if this is the case. Can anyone answer the question please.
Regards,
Val.

I don't know if they chime every 15 minutes throughout the night, but there are certainly bells in Brugge. My hotel was about 5 minutes walk from the Belfort and I could hear bells (with the window open), I think at least on the hour.

Can I suggest that you invest in some ear-plugs? I find the wax type intended for swimming are excellent for sleeping as well. Since I discovered them I have slept well everywhere I've travelled.

Yes I agree, though I cannot recall how often the bells were.
Look at this link on VT and it does say that they ring every 15minutes!!

We stayed at that hotel several years ago and cannot say we were disturbed (maybe that is because we availed ourselves of the various beer varieties on offer?)
We payed for an upgraded superior style room and from memory that was at the back of the hotel facing away from the Belfry.

Maybe ask the hotel in advance?

I hope you do manage to stay there - it was lovely.

Thanks for reply. I do wear ear-plugs some of the time but they make my ears sore - have tried all different kinds includind wax. But thanks for thr info.

Insist with the hotel for a room on the far side, where you dont hear the bells - or find another hotel. I am a light sleeper too and travel with a sound soother, much more helpful than ear plugs, but a more extreme solution. It has saved my life, however, on many occasions....
