Centrally located budget hotel

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 10, 2013

I loved the location of the Ibis Brugge Centrum, it was extremely easy to find with directions printed off Via Michelin, no driving around the narrow streets of Brugge struggling to find my lodging this time. As much as I like staying at B&Bs in Brugge, it's not always practical as you usually need to let them know when you are coming or be able to call when you arrive so hotels are a better option for us. Within walking distance of the central tourist area. Clean, comfortable, free wifi, hair dryer. Parking is in the garage next door, extra fee. Breakfast is not included in the rate so we passed on it. Will definitely stay here again should we return to Brugge

Directions: Exit 9 from A40/E10, follow signs for N50 which turns into Katelijnestraat, Ibis is on the right side, garage is next door

Cheap and comfy

This hotel should not be confused with the Ibis Brugge Centrum, a more expensive and probably higher-standard hotel nearby.
Ibis Budget Brugge Centrum Station is a very modern and quite nice hotel for those of you who don't need much more than a place to sleep, but are too old (or unwilling) to sleep in a youth hostel. Rooms are 49EUR a night during the week, and 59EUR during the weekend. Unfortunately, this excludes the breakfast, which, at another 7.50EUR pp comes quite expensive. While the breakfast buffet looked welcoming, we always decided against it and walked a few metres to the cafes next to the train station to get some good quality sandwiches or the like.
The rooms are, as said above, very modern and very small. The available space, however, is very well used. There is a shower, a toilet, a sink and a little table, but no wardrobe so that you will have to live out of your suitcase. TV and wifi are available in every room. What I didn't like was the fact that you could not open the window but had to rely on the air-condition, and that the toilet door was not lockable. Furthermore, the shower is not in an extra room but within the hotel room, so that when you come with a friend instead of a partner you might miss the necessary privacy.

Unique Quality: On the pro side, the hotel is very close to both the centre (10min by foot) and the train station (3 minutes). There is plenty of parking for 3.50EUR per day just in front of the house, and there are a lot of cafes just next door. On the contra side, the hotel is very hard to find as there are no signs on the main roads anywhere. The address, Marie Popelienplantsoen, is the square in front of the hotel which, however, is not directly accessible from street level. When you come by car, you should park it on the first level of the multi-storey car park next to the train station. You will then see a hotel sign between the two large buildings. When you come by train, leave the train station and walk up the stairs to your right. There is a SATURN electronics superstore which you have to pass. Turn right and walk up another set of stairs immediately after the store, and the hotel is directly in front of you.

Directions: next to the train station - a more complete description of how to find it is given above

2 star that should be a 4 star

This converted monastery is an Ibis budget hotel but is far more worthy of its 2 star rating.
From the minute you walk in , you are made to feel welcome here and the staff who work between the reception and bar are very professional.
Our room was a large one with three beds , a TV with many channels from across Europe, plenty of storage and very good bathroom. The room was very clean and of a good standard with comfortable beds.
The hotel stands in a secluded area off a busy shopping street and opposite a 4 star Novotel. The main square is a 10 minute walk , as is the station. Very close to the Minnenwater and just minutes from very secluded parts of the town.

Unique Quality: Sheer quality throughout but full marks to the staff , from the receptionists to the young women who clean the rooms who are all friendly and efficient.
The bar/restaurant is also very good and breakfast had many options and choices.
Highly recommended.
