I very nearly bought a new watch (TW13 Steel ) today and then remembered that Im visiting Brugge in December and wondered if anyone had purchased from Brugge and if they had saved euros by doing so??

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

You don't give any indication of where you are from or what currency you may be exchanging in Brugge for Euros. All I can say is that a year ago as a UK visitor to Brugge I found most items more expensive that in the Uk. Did not buy a watch but needed a new memory card and pen-drive - both a good bit more than in the UK.

Re: Shopping

The Dutch-language websites give a price of 289 euro.
If you google, you can usually find the cheapest price if buying on the internet. Watch the package and posting costs and perhaps VAT!

Travel Tips for Brugge

A Palmolive Moment....Hands as soft as sillk...

by Greggor58

I couldn't believe how fast she was moving and seemingly not making any progress....its such a time consuming and intricate endeavor....making a lace something or other... : O ]

I'm the WRONG person to ask...all I know is that whatever she was making it was tiny ?

I stumbled across this lovely woman just down the street from the "Church of our Lady"...I think on Mariastratt....heading in the general direction of the Beguinage....she was set up in a doorway along the street and was surrounded by a small crowd...pretty difficult to miss actually..

The making of Lace will be linked to the history and present time of Brugge likely forever..I really don't profess to know much about Lace...but watching this lady do her thing was really unforgettable...

There are two main techniques practiced in the Flemish provinces of Belgium. The first, a needle lace, is still manufactured in in the region of Aalst. It is called Renaissance or Brussels lace because it is mostly sold in Brussels. The second type, the Bobbin Lace, is a specialty of Brugge. This lady is showing us how Bobbin Lace is made...

Watch for her if you have any interest in this fine skill or simply if you have an interest in seeing someone work a "magic"...

Go to the central part, the old town (sounds banal but it's the usual touristic place).
You can also take a horse carriage to go around the old town. Just look at the buildings along your way. Old houses and water mills, churches and the belfries dominating over the city.

Take a walk with the guide booklet from the Tourist Information (60 cents). Go early and at your own pace, perhaps stopping for a boat trip at the Dijver and even the brewery tour at the Straffe Hendrick (Waalplein). This is just a beautiful place to be. I especially miss the beer and on our return have to endure our British lager which is just about good enough for cooking.

Fries & Mayonnaise - The Best!

by kehale

While you are in Brugge you MUST try fries with mayonnaise (of course unless you are not a big fan of mayonnaise). I never thought it would be that good until I tried it. When we ordered them, they came in a paper cone and the mayonnaise was the REAL stuff - no miracle whip or Hellman's here! Just take my word for it... it's delicious!

One more of Lori's Lace

by Waalewiener

Machine made Lace can be made by weaving with bobbins in a loom.
The kind of Lace of which Lace curtains are made is of this type, and so is the Lace that used to trim lingerie and is sold in department stores.
Tatting is a kind of Lace making .This makes a kind of knotted Lace. The knots are made by catching loops of thread and forming them into rings. It is done with a single thread
wound on a bobbin and is one of the many forms of Lace making that require great skill and much practice.Laces are sometimes made with Gold and Silver threads instead of plain fibers It is possible to obtain Lace for hundreds of different uses, from ornamentation of upholstery to trimming baby clothes.Simple Lacemaking is a pleasant hobby . It can be learned in handcraft classes in many cities,or from the instruction booklets, or from the instruction booklet available wherever crocher hooks tatting bobbins and crocher yarns are sold.
The End.
